I bought skyrim just because todd lied about how you could dynamically effect towns economys by burning down or sabotaging businesses and it would cause prices to change in the area.

Yeah, but the way he said it was in the context of how open Skyrim's world was. There was the implication that you could go anywhere you can see, but in reality he pointed out the one exception to the rule of NOT being able to climb mountains without clarifying it.

This is unlike the 200 endings things where he went to great length explaining how it's not as big a deal as it sounds. Something happened between Fallout 3 and Skyrim that made Todd change his approach there. I think the endings debacle taught him that he's going to be taken out of context and called a liar no matter what he says, so he might as well not bother with the explanations and let people think what they want if it means more sales.

Pic related. Also the plazas in Vivec were not supposed to have domes over them, they were supposed to be part of the exterior. That one small change would have made the city a fuckload easier to navigate since without the unique plaza architecture to go by you can only tell where you are in the city by recognizing the tapestry logos or hovering over the tiny dot on the world map.

It's not bad but it is ancient as hell. Framerate. loading, and physics are tied to FPS.
It cannot support hardware antialaising and 64bit implementation at the same time.
And it relies on scripting that basically guarantees a steady stream of crashes.

While it was good for its time, the quality of newer engines makes it almost a slap in the face to have to deal with it on a new game.

NetImmerse/Gamebryo/Creation is really only used by Bethesda for rendering graphics, and it genuinely has changed enough to be called a new engine since the Morrowind days. The gameplay side of Bethesda's engine, on the other hand, is all proprietary and has changed in very minor ways with each game since 2002. Even if they "got a new engine" they'd probably still be reusing most of that code because they're still making the same kinds of games. If you want them to rewrite THAT it would mean abandoning the editor their level design team (which is mostly the same core people for the past 10-15 years) has gotten used to for their entire career. It would mean adding a few years to the already long development cycle of TES and the quality of the finished product will greatly depend on the skill of their current programmers, in whom I have little faith.

Some people praise devs and then ignore their lies. Look at cdpr for example, maybe not on /v/ but there are people who think these the best, nicest devs out there when they have lied about lots of things. They said that the quality of the pc version wouldn't be affected by the console versions yet they downgraded the graphics, and then said they would release modding tools and then didn't (bigger lies than anything todd has said). Stuff like this has happened plenty of times, yet since they don't have a face to meme it isn't ever remembered.

Fallout 4 is fine if you like base building. I almost exclusively play it to make cool settlements now. The story is the worst yet though and I don't recommend anyone that has a real interest in Fallout's lore bother with it.

You know what, im sick and tired of all the off topic posts making fun of Todd. Even if he didnt create the best video game ever, he still created what many people (yes, those who arent virgins on /v/) consider to be a timeless masterpiece.
