I've been looking for something with the same charm as OSRS or KOTOR or TL2 or Fallout II or even Diablo II for some time only to be disappointed.
Every time i try and try something new it's always lack luster. As a kiddo when KOTOR 1/2 first came out i made that game my bitch, it was so rewarding to find crystals and make god mod sabers. Applying points in abilities and feats that would further give you options to use in game play. Same goes for Fallout. TL2 was kinda repetitive but had that minimal but rewarding quality loot. With runescape i enjoyed farming mindlessly and the charm of it. The minimalist *start with one point of damage and slowly increment it upwards VERY noticeably* and it was so rewarding.
Tried Baldur's gate, the party and vast skills system for each member was too encumbering for me.
Any ideas /v/?
You're looking for a feeling that you'll never find. You loved those games as a kid partially because of the mindset you were in as a kid. You're far too cynical and critical of modern games to recreate that feeling of childhood carefree fun with any game so you might as well just replay all the games you listed or start enjoying modern games for what they are instead of trying to compare them to your nostalgic memories.

That's just nostalgia talking.

Might give D&DO a shot, Dragons Dogma Online, or if you're into consoles Gothic Arcania or whatever series.
