Fall damage will probably be back in. In XC it was used to limit the areas you could go. For example, if the game didn't have fall damage, you could've just jumped down the Ether Mines.
XCX was open and such didn't need that restrictions and could remove fall damage.

Just emulate them my dude. If you didn't grow up playing random encounter turn based JRPGs it can be hard playing them in this day and age because they're so fucking slow. That's why you load them up in an emulator and just bind the speed up key to something you can just hit easily like space bar and then you hit speed up anytime shit gets boring. I grew up playing JRPGs and even I find them boring as fuck now if played at normal speed.

That's how I play just about any pre-2010 JRPG now. Hell when I was replaying Xenoblade emulation really took the grind out of those boring as fuck side quests since I just turned the game up to 400% speed and ran back and forth across alcamoth/frontier village like they were nothing.

For anti flight-pack cheese you just let players go inside. X had a real shortage of constructed linear areas that feel good to go through as well which the area could make up for. The Ganglion Base in Chapter 11 is the only area that comes close, while Blade had more linear areas like Mechonis Field and Sword Valley.

I like open world areas, but you still need setpieces in them.

In X, the "story" chapters themselves make up a very small portion of the game.
The game instead focuses on world building, primarily through affinity missions (which are the same quality as story chapters, just not necessarily related to the overarching story though some are), as well as many other side missions that, while lacking the same production value, still often have interesting content such as boss fights, as well as some lore about all the alien species.
As far as the shitty missions, these are marked as "basic missions" so they're easy to tell apart, and, personally, I never really had to do these as I'd always skim through them at the terminal when checking for the actual good missions, and any one that I had already met the requirements for just by exploring I'd accept and instantly complete them if that makes any sense, I'm tired and know I'm not exactly using the best english.


That being said, you don't play it much for story. What really kept me intrigued for the ~100 hours it took me to complete the campaign wasn't so much the story, but exploring the world itself. Though contrary to what a lot of people on /v/ say, I thought the story was still pretty entertaining, its just clearly not the centerpiece like in the original.
