Garrisons were a good idea, but they got gutted and became too intertwined into the actual game.

Tying the story and professions to garrisons was a mistake. Also cutting the option of choosing WHERE your garrison would be placed is just another reason why WoD was shit.

We had a guy in our guild that was still going to his garrison every day to collect resources, do the missions and buy WoD crafting stuffs to try to make money. He had me make invisbility potions to sell for him on the AH. He always bragged about making hundreds of gold. I kept telling him that you go take a shit in the broken islands and you make thousands of gold. He would not listen.
