Being in first place and having balanced items in that spot to protect yourself has never been a problem before in MK64, Super Ciruit, DD, DS, or Wii.

You can only collect 10 coins per race you idiot. Once the race is finished it counts the 10 coins you have into your full total.
Don't tell me you actually collect every coin in a race thinking it raises you up by 50 coins....

The safest place to be in Mario kart is 1st. The coin helps make the position not so safe.
