Why are devs trying to make fighting games more easy and accessible?

They want to cater to FGC fags but also want to bring in casuals. Like you can't serve two masters.

Also as much as /v/ hates the word "innovate" why not change it from the boring 1v1 format?

I don't think making them easier will save the genre. After all if they were too hard wouldn't they never have developed a following in the first place? But also the FGC is partly to blame also cause they want the same damn thing every game.

And they shouldn't listen to casuals either because they don't know what they want.

99% of the actual skill in fighting games is fundamentals and stuff like timing/spacing for combos, not being able to memeroize inputs or preform a complicated input for a specific move.

Simplifying inputs makes it easier for newer players to adjust without lowering the skill ceiling by more then a negliable degree.

Yeah but there is no pleasing casual faggots. Just look at SFV

Rising Thunder showed that Casuals don't want to really learn about the fundamentals and cardinal rules. They just want to pull of huge combos and see Flashy K.O's on the screen.

It's why MK is popular. Flashy fatalities and Brutalities.

They actually reduced the use of fundamentals in SFV though. Dash in, knockdown, 50/50s, repeat is the most successful strategy not even at low levels. That's because stray hits do less damage and are riskier(thanks to crush counters), while up close pressure goes into more high damage combos and is way safer. The risk/reward is totally screwed up.

They literally dumbed the gameplay down. Fundamentals, spacing, fireball game, they are all very abstract and hard to learn. Baby mode frametraps with no risk involved isn't hard to learn.

actually very true, NRS is doing the best for the casual market right now
ASW is handling the competitive sidethe best
and capcom is doing every wrong for everyone

>he thinks SFV is 50/50s
Jesus you don't know shit about fundamentals if you think SFV is a mess of 50/50s. It has a wholly different problem stemming from 33/33/33 exploited by strong characters having frame advantages on nearly everything.

Injustice/MK is the game with 50/50s out the ass.

hmm

It would throw new stuff into the mix. for vets and casuals of the genre.

Why not a 1v1v1 fighting game or something?
>>
>Also as much as /v/ hates the word "innovate" why not change it from the boring 1v1 format?

HAL Labs did that, and then their formula for a group fighter got casualized into the ground too.

smash isn't a fighting game

practice. thats literally all it takes. basically watch pros play, if they regularly do things that you can't do 10/10 times, then practice them until you can. play against other people around your skill level and every time you lose, pinpoint something you could have changed that might have made you win, and make that change. rinse repeat
>>379691650
basically gooey and mike are shilling hitbox because it is objectively better. in SFV the lag makes it really hard to react to a fireball while you're walking forward and block in time, this has never been a problem in any other SF game. hitbox lets you switch from forward to block faster than with a stick, this is just fact. for any other fighting game, it wouldnt matter nearly as much, but for SFV that little time saved by using a button instead of a stick really counts in the lag

Would going to Locals help get better? Even if you are a total beginner?

>about the fundamentals and cardinal rules. They just want to pull of huge combos and see Flashy K.O's on the screen.
This, they only care if cool shit happens when you mash buttons, like in Tekken or NRS games

the age old question. if you have a hard time traveling/spending money, then don't sweat skipping locals. i hate when people act like every player should be obviously going to every local all the time. however, going to locals WILL make you better. even if you slack on practice and dont see your results improve, you will gain experience which is seriously so valuable. talented players who stay at home come to a tournament in person and crumble ALL the time. learning to play in a tournament environment is a skill in itself, and you need both it and the skills in the game to win. and if you learn how to practice properly, then going to locals will speed your improvement up a ridiculous amount, by forcing you to take it seriously and giving you new opponents around your skill level consistently
