Tekken 7 if you want to ride the bandwagon, but Injustice 2 and KI are very solid too.

KI is probably the best teaching aid for SF style games too, since it's tutorial is best in class.

I don't think it will die desu. It won't have SF numbers, but I think it will have a good amount of players of each skill level for at least 6 months to 1 year.

Like I'm playing rev2 and I'm running into a good variety of players and if I want someone around my skill level I can always go to /fgg/ or something

I'd like to advocate for Pokken.

It's pretty fun, allows for player expression, has a cast that plays very differently from each other while also being outright one of the most balanced competitive fighting games around period, and based on how hard nintendo seems to be shilling DX, won't lose steam super quickly like it did the first time around.
