/v/ BTFO once again! Get fucked haters, Bloodstained will be great.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m20wmdMC6ck
>>
Looks way better now. Kudos on them for improving it. It used to look like complete dogshit (especially the village)
>>
>>379586335

It was because of the low contrast gave it a "washed out" look. There's more contrast giving it a darker better look. They also changed some of the colors and it looks like they've toned down the use of that ugly neon purple, for a darker blues and purples instead.
>>
>>379586526
Yeah, that's basically what I said when I saw the footage, it was like there was a floodlight pointed at the game and the models didn't fit the backgrounds at all, but back then almost every Bloodstained backer answered with "S-s-shut up, it l-l-looks fine"
>>
>>379585686
left doesn't look bad, right is just darker
>>
>>379586526
>>379586941
is /v/ really this blind?
I see texture and model changes as well
>>
Did they fix the jumping, landing, running animations from being so weightless and greasy?
>>
>>379587267
you're right, you're right but I'm just saying it's not that big a deal for me
>>
>>379587360
>and greasy?

What in the actual fuck does that mean? How can animations be "greasy"?
>>
>>379588124
Not quite slippery: Greasy.
>>
>>379587360
Why would they change the animations? They're perfect the way they are right now, it looks and feels like SotN.
>>
>>379585686
>btfo
Are you implying being cynical about kickstarters isn't warranted? If this game can rise above the other trash that's great.
>>
>>379588376
>it looks and feels like SotN.

That's the problem. Those animation speeds made sense at the time, as they were the first of the Metroidvania mini-series. But they refined it over time. Games like Aria and the NDS games play faster and better. Order of Ecclessia plays god damn fantastic. They all have faster player speeds and animations.

Miriam just looks slow in comparison.

Going for full 100% nostalgia pandering is NOT a good idea.
>>
People gotta realize that IGA's worth trusting.

Unlike Inafune who was an illustrator turned producer, IGA is a programmer turned producer. He knows a thing or two about game development, which is why he switched from Inti Creates to DICO because Inti Creates is too inexperienced with UE4.

Before Kickstarter IGA maintained a fantastic track record for games unlike Team17's (Yooka Laylee) mostly mediocre games or Obsidian's unfinished releases or inExile's mostly iOS games.

Also mentioned before but this game's not using goddamn Unity like so many Kickstarter games. Unity is too limited in scope to be able to bring variety, and it's why a lot of character models in Unity engine games look so samey or why Yooka Laylee has so much repetition in its levels. Instead, Bloodstained is being made on the latest tech Unreal Engine 4.

This is basically why it remains the only game I have backed on KS.
>>
>>379588376
I can give SOTN leeway since it's an old game with pretty spritework but Bloodstained has totally average looking 3D assets and it was made in Unreal Engine 4 fgs and the year is 2017 so I demand a little stumble animation for landing form a fall even if it can be canceled into anything. Otherwise it just feels bad. Other things look bad too: the way she starts her run, the way she jumps without any kind of power at all, the way she dangles so boringly when jumping and falling. These animations are worse than SotN, duh, but they're also more glaringly bad since it's all 3D and my mind cannot subconsciously excuse it's flaws.
>>
>>379588635
>Order of Ecclessia plays god damn fantastic.

If you're not going to be serious can you just fuck off to a waifu thread?
>>
>>379585686
Have they fixed the awful animations?
>>
>>379588839

Watch the videos.
>>
Iga saw what happened to Inafune. He knows his rep is on the line. That's why he's giving this his all.
>>
>>379588635
I don't know about the other games since I haven't played them yet, but AoS and DoS definitely do not play faster than SotN, they're about the same speed, or if anything, they're slower than SotN.

>>379588719
I just don't see a problem with these things, if it were a 3D game, then yes, I'd see a problem with the animations, but its 2.5D, so for me, nothing registers as wrong with the animations, because I look at it like its a 2D game instead of looking at it like a 3D game.
I also don't want there to be more to the animations, because it would only make the game slower and less smooth to play, if the animations could be canceled by doing literally anything, then yeah that's fine, but then what would be the point of adding those animations in the first place?
>>
Still looks like one of those shitty porn platformers where the girl is eaten.

Personally I also backed Days of War aka Day of Defeat 3 and so far haven't been disappointed. They actually had core stuff done before they went on Kikescammer and are also using UE4.
>>
>>379588635
Symphony of the Night is not some relic of an ancient means by which sidescrollers were designed, it's a fucking PS1 game, people knew how to design 2D games, and Konami was no exception, the map being open doesn't have anything to do with how they design basic movement. It was the way it was on purpose.
>>
>>379589692

You mean the best games, right?
>>
>>379589369
>then what would be the point of adding those animations in the first place?
wh-
am I
DO I really have to explain why having reactive, grounded (before you say some dumb shit, no: all good character animation, period, from disney to miyazaki (even shit like bayonetta) is GROUNDED ) animations would make for movement to feel more satisfying? To give it umpf?
What the fuck. Why even have sound effects for jumping and footsteps? Why have an animation for starting a run-- why not just have the run animation suddenly start with no transition? Why have menus with buttons that flicker when you scroll through? It's a feeling of friction that human beings enjoy feeling and observing. Are you an alien?
How can you not just inherently enjoy good animation
>>
>>379585686
the game looks kinda bland. So far I donĀ“t like the artstyle. It looks kinda great, but these levels look fucking bland.

I asked what the point would be because if it were all able to be cancelled out by literally anything so that it wouldn't slow down the gameplay, then you would almost never see the animations during general gameplay anyways, making them rather pointless.
I enjoy good animation, and to me the animations in Bloodstained as they are now, look good, just like how every other IGAvania's animations look good to me.

i swear to christ no matter where i go, everyone acts like MN9 was the end-all be-all of kickstarter scams, like because some idiots got burned trusting Inafune, when a couple minutes of google searching would show he hasn't been personally responsible for anything cool or successful in years. In fact it was his fault so many Capcom franchises were almost killed off by outsourced Western-developed sequels. And then Capcom PROMOTED him even after all his stupid ideas flopped, to head of R&D. He just quit after that and I don't even blame him, Capcom is literally retarded

MN9 would've been maybe about as good as any Gunvolt game had he just promised it one or two platforms. It was his stupid idea to promise it on every machine known to man from PS4 to Atari 2600 that killed the project and caused all the delays.

But now thanks to MN9, every single kickstarter game is spammed with remarks about how "i hope this isn't another MN9!" "cuz of MN9 i am worried my game that doesnt come out for another year might be bad Q_Q" like jesus fuck

you can definitely tell MN9 fans have never tried investing stocks or even understand how an investment gamble works. They want every dice roll to be big money big money
>>
>>379595446
>creator of SOTN

Toru Hagihara?
>>
>>379596007

They trusted him because they thought he was the CREATOR OF MEGA MAN and was the director of every single of the good games (and not the bad ones somehow). They thought he was the Miyamoto and Tezuka of the mega man series.
>>
>>379596158
like i said, a tiny bit of google searching, would disprove this idea, it's incredible that information is at people's fingertips at any given moment and they just choose not to even read a wikipedia page before throwing away 4.4 million dollars.

Like yeah people I'm sure we were gonna get something mind-blowing from the guy who was quoted several times as saying Japanese games suck and that they're stagnating while ~the West is advancing~ then does a kickstarter for a successor to a Japanese franchise famous for not changing its formula at all for straight ten sequels.
>>
>>379585686
still look like shit
>>
It still looks shitty. Somehow SotN looks better than this shit.

>like i said, a tiny bit of google searching, would disprove this idea,

You would find article after article calling Inafune the "series creator", the "creator of mega man" the "designer of mega man", the "series director", etc. Every news article sucks his dick HARD, including shit released just recently. Look at this gamespot article for Recore for example. I don't blame people for being misinformed, since all the gaming media is constantly mis-informing them. Yes, they may have found some obscure 2007 interview, but likely not. That shit is buried.

> not to even read a wikipedia page

A lot of the Wikipedia pages in English referred to him as the creator of mega man. It was only after MN9 debackle that they were re-written to be more realistica bout his actual role (artist, producer).
>>
>>379596770
when i google his name right in the top like, 5 results is a thread discussing him saying "I am not the father of megaman" from over a year ago

Or this article from HG101, who should god damn know better, saying that while Inafune didn't create the series, he is responsible for designing the iconic Mega Man design (spoiler: he didn't).

Put his name into google news, and I guarnatee you there will be some article released in the last month or weeks sucking his dick, saying he's the mega man creator/director/designer (they can never be quite sure what the hell he did).

SotN is Hagihara's game. Iga was co-writer, co-programmer for most of it. Only after Hagihara got his promotion at Konami and had to be less involved in SotN, did Iga come in and finish the game. That was at the 50% mark. He finished Hagihara's game, he didn't create it.

the MN9 drones had it coming since they were too lazy to do some basic research

"Inafune is the creator of Mega man" was the DEFAULT position of both /v/ and everyone else. MN9 made everyone re-examine that claim.

During a special event at TGS 2007, Inafune clarified his role in the creation of Mega Man.

>"I'm often called the father of Mega Man, but actually, his design was already created when I joined Capcom," he explained. "My mentor [Capcom senior member Akira Kitamura], who was the designer of the original Mega Man, had a basic concept of what Mega Man was supposed to look like. So I only did half of the job in creating him."
>>
>>379597991
Jesus Christ...
>>
>>379598184

You do realize that was added to Wikipedia AFTER MN9 right? MN9 caused a lot of people to question Inafune's real role, and to do some research. A bunch of people went through the Wiki pages with actual citations and quotes (instead of assumptions pulled out of fans' asses).
>>
>>379598192
Could be a longer wait than that too, considering that they said they were only 20% done not too long ago, iirc it was late last year when they said it.

There was one brave anon who tried to warn us. In all the MN9 hype thread, there were at most 2 posts critical of Inafune, and this was one of them. The MN9 fanboys replied by posting Inafune's credentials and they considered this to be "BTFO" of this anon. But in the end, this anon was confirmed right.

Kamiya tried to warn us too. He wasn't trying to insult Inafune, merely state the facts. It was the fanbase that was wildly misinformed about Inafune's role.

btw, Akira Kitamura's blog has been discovered. I'm not sure if it contains any relevant information, but he does blog on game development.

It's clear that you're not being fair and just bashing it for being 2.5D without actually considering how it looks at all. There's such a thing as good 2.5D visuals, and this is an example of that. Look at the newest Kirby games as another example.
