This is one of the most well known game series on earth. When SJWs are bitching about female representation in video games FF6 never comes up. Is it because it completely destroys all these theories? It's one of the best Final Fantasies in terms of characters and their development too. In FF4 the women are literally just damsels in distress and in 7 they took a step backwards and the women went back to being secondary characters whose sole purpose is to be in love with the main character. Then in 8 they went even further back causing the main female character to be some idol-looking love interest bullshit.

In 6, Terra gives no fucks about the men folk. She develops a crush on Leo but he gets killed before they can really go anywhere with it. Celes is a bit more of a "Damsel in distress" type but she's also shown to be incredibly powerful and respectfully keeps her distance from Locke once she learns about Rachel.

I think it could be because the Final Fantasy series hasn't really done themselves any favors as far as female protagonists go since 6. Every other game since then the female representation has been weak. Ashe was pretty good in 12 but she's like the third tier main character behind Basch and Vaan and they've also got two fetishes in the party with the leggy Vierra supermodel and the blonde ditzy school girl.
Lightning was a shit, and her game was fucking terrible, yet THAT is the character I see when people chat about strong female characters. Bullshit.

They didn't do themselves any favors in the games before FFVI either. The females in FFIV are the best characters in the game. But they still treat them like shit. They even have a part of the story where Cecil and Edge 'order' the girls not to go to the moon. And the girls disobey by sneaking onto the ship. If there's anything in the series that would trigger SJWs, it's that part.

I always thought of 6 as an "ensemble cast" type of situation. Terra, Celes and Locke are all co-leads.

Final Fantasy does have a poor track record when it comes to female protags which is why it's so odd to me that no one ever mentions what a great job they did in 6 to reverse this trend.

Just as an indicator of how much the times had changed, when Square released FF6 they weren't all like "check it out y'all! Female leads! Girls can be heroes too you guys!". There was no ad campaign, no one was lauding them for their virtue signaling, no one cared. I started the game and was like "oh cool, I guess I'm this girl!". No one gave a fuck about genders, we were just excited to play what looked like an amazing game.

In Japan, Terra was advertised everywhere. Because it was all the fad in the 90s for Japan to obsess over female leads. Female characters topped all the polls for games and anime.

Its just in the west where they hid this in the advertising. Because western media has this dumb view that 12 year old boys only want to play games with Rambo on the cover. Back in the 90s, this wasn't really the case. But sadly over decades of the media pushing this dumb narrative, it got young boys to actually think that way. Leading to the shitty western games we have today.

Runic is ridiculously powerful at most points in the game with most parties. Pair her up with Edgar, Shadow, Sabin, Cyan, Snow Muffler Mog, anyone with the Genji Glove/Offering. At almost any point in the game you are going to have a team that will go crazy with physical damage while your enemy is unable to get spells off. Magic is a common attack from most higher level enemies, Celes neutralizes that.

Runic's usefulness tapers off once encounters start to have multiple spell users and enemies/bosses who start getting multiple turns, counter magic, and unrunicable abilities. By the point in the game you're talking about, Celes would be better off doing other stuff than locking herself down with Runic.

Runic is a decent skill, but not the most game breaking skill. That goes to the likes of Control (literally breaks the game), Rage (Stray Cat, Magic Urn, Rafflesia), or maybe even Magic which is pretty OP in its own right.
