If your argument is OOT would fall prey to the same criticisms as BOTW, there's no analogy. OOT is a near perfect game that defined the genre in 3d, while BOTW is exceptionally flawed and a cookie cutter Ubisoft clone.

I'm assuming you weren't using the Internet back in 1998. Speaking from experience of actually being there back then, there was a ridiculous amount of Sony vs Nintendo shit-talking. Lots of "Nintendo is kiddy shit, Sony is for adults". Nintendo fans were praising Ocarina of Time up and down, but certainly not everyone was.
