It's a metroidvania with a massive focus on non-linearity and loads of boss fights. Those are the things that make it good, along with the soundtrack. The story is pretty weak and standard enemy variety is lacking, but the world is fairly large and the different areas do at least feel unique in design.

For me, it was mostly the feel of the gameplay. Combat is surprisingly flexible, with a surprising array of moves and movement options available to you once you unlock them.

Difficulty scaling is terrific and surprisingly customizable. Bosses are varied (for the most part) and offer up a good challenge (again, for the most part).

Music is also great and covers a surprising amount of themes/styles. Here are two tracks, for example:

The game's not perfect, as there's way too much dialogue (though you can always skip all of it, even during first playthrough), and it takes awhile to start picking up the pace. Environments are mostly bland-looking as well, though how much that matters is going to be different for everyone.

TL;DR
Metroidvania with great controls and a based soundtrack. Pacing starts off painfully slow but quickly ramps up once you start unlocking shit. Story is complete ass and pops up too often, so be prepared for that.
