Sure. Although how much of it is intentional to sneak attack you because DMC is vaugely a horror game and how much is just not knowing any better is debateable.

In what way? If you mean visuals that's subjective, if you mean gameplay that's very very wrong. Every enemy has a ton of moves, dynamic AI and lots of ways that your moves can interact with them. Read the little enemy descriptions in the menu and see all the shit they can do.

I mean, there were things I very much disliked, like not implementing the old Dante's stances and being easy as fuck until the swordsman enemy, but Ninja Theory really nailed it on the artstyle.

What good aspects? The atmosphere? The only game that went all in on the atmosphere is DMC1 and that's the reason it's still regarded as one of the better DMC games. The music? Only DMC 1 and 3 have memorable songs. People don't play these games for those things despite them adding to the whole package. People play them for the combat which is the main flaw and offense DmC has.

How can you say DmC was an improvement to the series when it neutered the main draw of the series?

Just a reminder that the first one was supposed to be more like the early Resident Evil games. The fixed camera angle was there to make jump scares more effective.

Combat-wise, I still think it holds up pretty well, but the game is hard as balls for the most part.

Vanilla edition on Normal, the only real trouble I had was with Agni and Rudra but I eventually got them, the hardest part of the fight was the camera honestly.
I'll definitely go back to DMC but I am having a blast with DMC3 so I'd like to finish this first. I've been told that the Vergil fight at the end is better than the Azel fight in God Hand so I'm looking forward to that.

You don't have to fight all the bosses. There's a big board with lights on it, and different colored portals that match the lights. When you enter a portal and beat a boss, the light that matches it on the board lights up. You have to complete any cycle of lights on the board.

TL;DR: you get some options about which bosses you want to fight again.

Royal Guard's weird since they only give you the babby version of it at rank 2. Once you can Royal Guard in the air it's easy though. You just jump, which gives you a bunch of i-frames, then RG. You either block or you were too late in which case you have i-frames.

Once you learn the timing from doing that you don't have to jump anymore. It really is the most fun style for me though.

This is how it goes in DMC4

>go to church, then cathedral, then forest, then bad guy HQ, get your shit kicked in and do all of that over with Dante with the same bosses, no less.
This is how it goes in DMC3

>Go through streets, then first floor of tower, then climb tower, get to the top, fight Vergil, get your shit kicked in, get eaten alive, kill Leviathan by slicing it's heart, get back in, climb back to the "top", fight vergil again, and so on.
In DMC4, you literally do the same thing over again with another character. There's an actual reason in DMC3 to revisit those places.

Enemy variety isn't that large, but at least it's better than in DMC4, which had like 6 enemies in total.
