It's really not. Just because it doesn't have power of friendship (instead it's power of mary sue protag-ness) doesn't mean it's mature. I remember playing Nocturne and being disappointed by everything in it. It had shitty characters, shitty story, boring combat and shitty atmosphere. I hate that pseudo-intellectuals pretend that game had atmosphere. Yeah the desolation of the world kinda goes away when every 10 seconds rock music starts blaring while you do anime battles with talking creatures so poorly designed they can be in a digimon game. So many bosses are just skeletons. How creative. A normal matador, just make it have a skull face. A motorcycle rider, just make it have a skull face. Kaneko isn't creative at all.

The world didn't feel desolate or even apocalyptic when I'm constantly having conversations with other humans and even the enemies I fight. The characters weren't fleshed out enough, it was just the blandest of the bland experience anyone can have. So what if you have to spend more turns buffing/debuffing, the game is still just a generic jrpg. I don't care what anyone says, Nocturne is the most overrated game that /v/ worships. Yes, worse than Witcher 3. At least that game had good writing and actual gameplay.

Some of the side content is interesting but the main plots are basically just smashing around religious characters like action figures. Just take it in good fun as an occult dungeon crawler, if you start thinking stuff like Law and Chaos are anything but hilariously extreme jokes you're looking for substance where there's none
