Theoretically, putting the blame on your team should protect your own ego and allow you to continue playing at your best. In practice, of course, this is never the case. Basically, if you are not in the specific frame of mind where you are willing to recognize your failings but not let them overwhelm you and play to win while also accepting that sometimes this will be impossible- it can become very easy to lose your composure.

Personally i dislike toxicity in online games, but from reading this thread it seems a lot of you actually enjoy it! if that's your thing, more power to ya.

That being said, If you want to avoid toxic gaming you must play games with a select criteria. Games with dedicated servers are a big help in keeping things friendly. Another good point is games with smaller audiences, possibly niche games/genres. A few examples of games that fit these criteria would be Unreal Tournament and Squad, or smaller rts titles like ashes of the singularity and planetary annihilation.

Overwatch pisses people off so much because it's designed from the ground up to prevent individual players from carrying games, but not to prevent them from throwing games. Everyone is jaded and impatient with their team because they know if shitty Hanzo #37476859 fucks around the whole game and doesn't communicate, then there's practically nothing the rest of the team can do to fix it.
It doesn't help that the ranking system only records winrates either, because it means that the game isn't punishing people for holding back their team or rewarding them for doing well. No matter how bad a player is, they can always blame their team instead of improving.

The bottom line is that Overwatch is the worst team based FPS I've played, and that includes f2p shit on steam like Paladins, which is supposedly a knockoff of Overwatch.

But really, in a fuckton of the matches I've played people haven't uttered a word, not in chat or through a mic. People emote a lot but that's mostly in the breaks before a match begins, and then it's just "hello" along with random shit.

I have been playing vidya for over 20 years now, for the most part I was a nice approachable person that helped the newbies out.
