I had a Wii U, but I always keep in mind that I'm in the minority there and most people who are buying Switches that aren't just scalper assholes are playing Mario Kart 8 and later on Splatoon for the first time. I really excited to wreck all these scrubs in Splatoon 2. I'm going to buy a Switch next month hopefully and it'll probably be the only game I buy for it until Odyssey comes out.
I got into ranked mode too late so it was a pain to climb the ladder, but if I can get into this one early I think I can get to S pretty quickly. I stopped playing Splatoon 1 when I got A+

Skipped it, maybe skipping on Switch as well until a couple good AAA games come on it.

me. No regrets, really. The initial drought until W101, WWHD, Bayo2, Pikmin 3, Rayman Legends, and SM3DW showed up kinda sucked, but I'm glad I had it for the last christmas I spent with my family all together before I went off to college and my sister moved in with her boyfriend. Playing Nintendoland as a family was fun, and I'm really glad I got to play NSMBU with my sister - she's older, but I've been better at vidya for a long time, so it's been hard for us to play co-op because someone gets frustrated. But she was able to play along on the tablet, acting as assist, and it was great.

Besides, I'm not so petty or poor that a $300 luxury purchase made 4 years ago is still affecting my wallet.

I thought about that too, but I kinda like how the WiiU replaced my Wii, and also I get a lot of mileage out of browsing youtube or something in bed on the controller. (I don't have an ipad or smartphone or anything)

The Wii U is relatively worthless now. A few years from now though, you can expect it to become expensive:

Gamers who play older consoles are gonna go nuts over this thing. It's gonna be like the Sega Saturn or the Dreamcast: initially worthless, but they became really expensive when people realized how good they were. It's only a matter of time with the Wii U.

If you're into physical games, buy them now. Since the switch launched, I got Lego City Undercover, Pikmin 3, TWWHD, Bayonetta 1 and 2 and Shovel Knight, all between €10 and €15. It's never gonna be this cheap again.
