Is this considered "cheating"? I've been making my way through the game using a couple important tidbits of info I learned.

I personally don't think so. Thing is I've played through tis game so many times so to me it doesn't feel like cheating. If not getting characters you want to play detracts from your enjoyment then I say use the baker names.
