Witcher 3 set a new benchmark for ARPGs. BoTW is completely irrelevant outside nintendo's ecosystem.

Breath of the Wild is a phenomenal game but it is not for everyone. I do think it will be GOTY but that's about it. I still fucking love the game thought.

Not really, it has more originality to its design but the structure of it isn't as interesting to explore as BotW's imo.

Not really, no.
Like take Nardacyon for example. Halfway through the fight he jumps in his mech and if you start the fight in the mech he'll turn your allies against you.
And the Strongest Prone guy fights way differently from a normal Prone.

it's only really the superbosses and very high level tyrants (i.e. end-game content) that does stuff like this, though. Most enemies in the game can be defeated the exact same way every time, you just need to unsure you upgrade your arts every now and then.

I don't think it's unfair, I'm not trying to say one form of combat is superior to the other, just highlighting the differences. I like XCX a lot, but I'm not a big fan of that style of combat, and I prefer BotW's more interactive style.

BotW is looking good, but there's too much serious competition for it to be the best. Witcher 3 indisputably set a new standard in AAA gaming. In particular I hope other devs copy their workflow when it comes to dialogue/character animations. BotW is an excellent refinement of Zelda applying many lessons learned over the past decade of gaming, but that doesn't make it the top game. Nintendo is the Apple of gaming - highly successful, the best at copying the best bits of their competitors, but not the best either.

In a way, at least for those of us in our late 20s and above, it's something of an anachronism. Console wars is something belonging more to the past. Yet Nintendo persists, and despite being firmly PC only for everything else I'll likely pick up a Switch at some point just for this.
