several months ago, back in the time now known as 2016, my best friend and i set out on an anthropological expidition into the mouth of madness known as second life.

the whole thing was like wandering the ruins of a once mighty civilization. ghosts moved through abandoned buildings, many interesting monuments still stood, and the whole place gave an eerie sense of emptyness and confusion. it felt like a 3d interface for a forum, or a 3d modelling program with a social chatting minigame.
the game was wholly tight lipped on how the fuck anything worked as well. nothing was explained, nothing made sense, and any players we found just tryed to grope my ass instead of answer my questions about what the fuck anything was. we also spent a lot of time in that casino trying to see if we could earn money there to buy hats with, but it was all for naught.
overall, it was one of the more emotionally draining experiences ive been through, and after my gang rape at the hands of the muscle dudes i couldnt take it and just stopped.
the icon is still sitting in a file on my computer, daring me to try to play the game again, but i cant. i cant go back into the gibbering mountains of madness.
also i couldnt figure out how to be a goblin girl so it sucked.

I feel like this is an unfair assessment. You can be anything in this game and it's empowering to be someone or something you can't be in real life. Me? I have tons of real people, -actual- people that I've met through this game and now know in real life because of it. Everyone is always happy to see me and it's a very warm feeling.

On top of that the game does have a reputation for it's focus on sex, which is a benefit in my opinion. I get a chance to practice my vocabulary with other interested people in order for the both of us to create something wonderful together. It doesn't even matter what you wear, my normal avatar has a cartoon bomb head and it hasn't stopped me from reeling in curious people for some fun.

I love this game.

I like pretending that we are all gods living in an empty universe. monuments, worlds, and towns built by players of old who mysteriously disappeared. The ones left are wanderers, either building there own creations among the monoliths or simply observing the universe they inherited. Like walking through a field years after a bloody battle, seeing all the little details that, at some point, there were many people here and now they've gone away, moved on.
