What are some games that ruined a genre for you? That no matter how many other games within it you play, no matter how good they are, they still pale in comparison to that one game.

Thank god they're making a sequel. Telltale's shitty efforts aren't even in the same universe.

Ruined me for RTS games.

Absolutely this.

That sounds interesting. How so?

unironically this. LiS was like, super lame and 'feely' in retrospective, but it was totally a success in what it wanted to achieve. i thought walking dead season 1 was good, and i still have my telltale game saves on my desktop, but there's just no way any of them can be that deep and connect so much. it's all just shitty pop culture tie-ins now
pic related is the absolute killer of all stealth games. i LOVE the genre, but nothing can come close to the complexity, atmosphere, writing, level design and gameplay of this masterpiece.
I've played some truly horrible games from literally every genre, but I don't hold the genre accountabl as I am able to distinguish what about the game is lacking and where it could improve where some other game undoubtedly did right.

read the fucking OP again, retard

You're the first result the word horrible comes up to. I never said anything about that.

JRPGs aren't really a concrete genre, what exactly did Minstrel Song ruin for you? SaGa is amazing but there are lots of great JRPGs that are very different yet still fun.

Does this game actually feel complete? Haven't played that one but every SaGa game I've ever played felt unfinished in places and I've noticed that this isn't even an uncommon opinion

Field skills, due to growth mechanics you always progressed at a great rate, and how it handled quests. Just due to the way quests were presented made a generic story feel much more involving. It had a great turn based battle system as well promoting the usage of skills.

This ruined top down run and gun for me. It's an old game, but it controls flawlessly. I went back to metal slug after finally mastering 1cc, and I couldn't play it. The other games don't let me cover non perpendicular angles like this game does. I realized other Run n Guns use power-ups to cover blind angles, whereas in SS, you never really need any power ups at all, they're just a nice bonus like it's supposed to be, as opposed to design fixes. It's a damn shame the series killed itself.
Absolutely the best run and gun there is, without a doubt.

Dwar Fortress > Baldur's Gate >>>>>>>>>> Everything else
And I'm like really shit at DF ;_;

It's a remake, so they had a chance to actually finish the game this time.
