When your game is so good even other devs admit its superiority
>Breath of the Wild has managed to bring classic open world mechanics together while not relying on them to guide the player through its world
>Breath of the Wild showed something most designers already know, but which is hard to achieve... open progression following each player's intrinsic motivations, adaptive challenge curve and economy, open narrative structures, and so on
>Of all the aspects of the title that may change public expectations, though, one stands out as most problematic for developers. This is the game's phenomenal level of polish
>implying it won't just make devs skimp out on main content and turn shit into collectathons instead
>>379431056
>adaptive challenge curve and economy,
there is no challenge in the game and the economy is broken when you realize you can sell any ingredient that isn't a durian
>>379431767
And never upgrade jack shit amazing... so this... is the power... of autism... whoah...
They'll make empty worlds full of shrines with health boosts
It will remind us when they make shit games that it's not bad JUST because it's Open-World.
>>379431626
BotW isn't a collectathon.
>>379431767
>selling everything is broken
So you prefer to gather materials that the ones you won't use will just take space in your inventory?
ok
>>379431945
isn't that basically every Ubisoft open world game
>>379431767
Autism
>>379431056
> adaptive challenge curve and economy
Shit like this makes it obvious it's a puff piece. he difficulty curve in BOTW is rigid, and the encomoy is beyond simple (you can buy items, and they always cost the same. It's literally the most bare bones economy you can have)
>open narrative structures
what does that even mean
It sounds like they mean that the narrative is a branching path, but it's not. Every quest ends the same way (almost always spawning a shrine), and you don't make any choices that change the game.
>>379431056
PC and PS4 owner here. I really want to play BOTW but the switch is shit and paying all that dough just to play one game is an absurd prospect.
>>379432337
could try emulating it
>>379432071
The alternative is that you make your crafting systems actually useful and no so simplistic that one item completely invalidates the rest.

>How will The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild change the open-world paradigm?
By making the landmass ten times bigger and one hundred times emptier, then filling it with with Banjo-Kazooie tier pointless collectathon bullshit and no reason to actually fight anything since fighting is a net loss due to durability systems. Good job Nintendo, you fucked up video game trends again.
>>379432291
>>open narrative structures
>what does that even mean
It means that there is an ending that you can go to from the start, and there are four flags that make the ending easier, and that is the entire narrative of the game.
>>379432389
wow what a game design guru this anon ended up being
they should hire you... Fujibayashi is a hack...
>>379432291
>open narrative structures
After the first area you are free to do any dungeon in any order, complete whichever memory in any order, go for the final boss at any time you desire etc
>>379432389
>>379432436
literally I-never-played-the-game posts
>>379432436
>Banjo-Kazooie tier pointless collectathon bullshit
>no reason to actually fight anything
Try playing BotW before shitposting

Like clockwork. Literally the only (non)-argument ever posted in reply to legit criticism.
I agree with him, fighting is not that fun in itself after a while, and there's very little reward to it, or exploring for chests, since at best you get something decent that'll last you one fight.
And do people actually like this kind of cooking/crafting system with 5 gazillion ingredients and combinations producing mildly different variations of the same thing that's most of the time not worth the effort of actually creating or using.
