I don't understand, how can anyone like this (the combat style, not this particular game)? That's an honest question.
How can anyone like the world which has no consistent laws ruling it? I mean, fine, you don't want actual laws of physics to work in your game, fine, but at least make up your own set of rules that is consistent. Floating in the air and fighting like that is the most cancerous shit that has ever been implemented in a video game.
Or those flashy moves. How does that not bother you, that the attacks are so fast and dashing, lightnings go along the blade and every blow sounds like a thunder, but the attacks are so weak compared to what they feel like? It should kill every single monster with one blow, further cutting should result in changing the monster into a fucking blood paddle. Don't you feel stupid, playing as someone who looks so powerful, but is so weak? Don't you feel stupid having to hit a fuckig monster with a mountain over a 1000 times to kill it?
And what about all those flashes, colors, lightnings and whatnot. Don't you get sick watching it?

Pls no bully, I really want to know. It's just incomprehensible for me how could anyone enjoy this kind of shit.

Think about it this way. Yes, you have someone who is extremely powerful. But imagine the bosses, capable of sustaining these attacks. Its about feeling powerful, and taking down strong enemies.

Its also about style, about going crazy with pure inputs.

Its like a fighting game. You don't just KO something in one attack, after all.

You're getting hung up on the implications that lore has gameplay. Forget about that. in gameplay the moves look powerful cause it's about using cool moves in a combo, it wouldn't be as fun if all of the enemies die in one hit.

It's not about internal consistency but fun gameplay that's cool to watch as well as play. Think of the dexterity required for such a combo in the webm. You also could only use the most optimal moves and enemies would die quicker, but part of the fun is making it look stlyish.

These kind of games are boring to me as well. But my problem is that everything all about getting sick combos. Dodging and maintainence of other mechanics isn't as important. Because of its combo centric nature a lot more time spent just wailing on the boss with nothing changing in game state outside the boss' heath bar. Not to mention how unsatisfying the "hits" themselves are.

First of all, that webm is modded gameplay. Half of those effects are recolored and that's the DMC1 costume I'm pretty sure. Second, looking at the DT gauge, the player is probably using a multi-trainer with damage multiplier at .4x or some shit like that. Third, sacrificing realism for mechanics is retarded especially for such crazy games like DMC. Second, there is internal consistency in the game. Staying in the air and doing sick combos is completely reliant on mechanics such as jump cancelling and guard flying-- both mechanics that need extensive practice to learn and apply in combos. You can't just jump in the game and start doing these high-level, advanced shit, especially not the type of crazy shit you see in that webm. If you're complaining about the enemies taking too many hits to kill or something like that either play Vergil or git gud. I don't even understand how that's a complaint. Conversely, you can play on Heaven and Hell.

These games are designed to be fun. The moves are supposed to be powerful, varied, and feel good, and all the moves are appropriate considering the enemies you face.

Honestly, stuff like Dark Souls is designed to be more realistic and grounded, but DS has some jarring stuff like the backstab animation (when you land a successful backstab, the enemy will stop their current animation and instantly go into a neutral standing animation, and both your character and the enemy will slide into place so that your character is directly behind the enemy's back) which feels really unrealistic and out of place for that game, but everything in DMC feels more consistent for that game and that world.

I'm conflicted with this. I like styling hard on fuckers in games like Mahvel with long ass combos, but it sucks to be on the receiving end of the touch-of-death. I could see a mechanic that acts like an stun/shield gauge. You have to deplete it first in order to juggle your opponent in long-ass combos. If it's not depleted, then your combos will be limited since the opponent will fast-fall or autobreak it after a certain amount of hits or time has passed.

I know this video is for DMC4 but the same principle still applies. At it's most basic, if you're using a controller, slide your thumb from jump to attack after connecting with an attack. Repeat. You're gonna need some practice. Also, you need to unlock enemy step which is a ability that lets you jump off the enemies in the first place.

Every fucking scrub thinks that Gunslinger sucks, but the truth is that there's no real bad style in the game. Use whatever you like. The thing with Gunslinger is that it greatly buffs your guns, then you'll be using them maybe 50% of the time or maybe even greater. The shotgun and Artemis are ludicrously useful with Gunslinger. Artemis + Multilock is one of the most OP moves in the entire game, and it's really scrub-friendly too, unlike shit like Just Guarding and Royal Release with Royal Guard.

Fuck me, I should go back to DMC3, it's been way too long.

God Hand is pretty much the only good 3D beat 'em up and it gives you essentially unlimited customization as you pick from over one hundred moves that you can unlock in the store.
In God Hand you're really only bound by your creativity, it's one of the most fun games I've played.

That being said it does have some issues such as no proper NG+ (although I think this was to force people to keep experimenting on repeat play throughs), no level select and the camera can be pretty bad at times.

Everyone always forgets that high-level DMC play is much more technical, demanding, and harder as well. Reliably JC-ing an enemy for quite some time, reliably JG-ing a group of enemies, Royal Releasing, etc. all while pulling off combos, or in DMC4's case, guard flying and keeping enemies in the air for long periods of time, is harder than any advanced tech in NG. Yes, NG bosses and enemies are harder, but nothing that you'll input while playing that game will be as demanding as that. In fact, nothing in those games, as far as that, is particularly hard, actually.

Jump cancelling is the big trick before you can style, but there are tons of other things to learn. In DMC4SE, for example, Vergil has a Just Judgement Cut, which has no wind-up, shorter cool down, increased damage, and can flow smoothly out of regular combos, but you need perfect timing to activate it.

I don't know what to tell you. Here's me performing the simple gun juggle but slowed down. You just need some rhythm. A lot of the combos and mechanics in DMC will require a certain rhythm, and a lot of them are different from one another. Muscle memory is your friend.

Like the anon said, only the costume and effects were modded. I guess you could count the infinite DT gauge as "modded," but you could easily obtain that with the Super Dante costume. At 16 seconds, he's guard-flying with sky stars. Everything in that webm is possible to do vanilla. You can literally stay in the air for an infinite amount of time with Dante if you wanted to.

It's 100 percent possible. There's a certain cadence to it.

Keep in mind that without JCing, Dante is eventually going to fall faster than the scarecrow and hit the ground. Even with JCing, this happens just at a much slower rate but you can loop it with other abilities like trickster.

You can always do a better combo and that keeps combat interesting and not tedious. Unlike a God of War where you find a go to combo and just repeat that throyght the whole game. It might not even be worth it to switch to a new weapon because it lacks a near infinite juggle or something.

One of the best Dante players ever, Donguri, plays with the default configuration. Although, personally, I put the guns on the triggers, and swap style button and attack button. Also, I use the left-handed claw grip so I can style change faster and easier.
