Why is there such a stigma against Japanese games, at least, non-Nintendo ones? It's present everywhere. By normalfags, by gaming journos, essjaydoubleyous, even on 4chan, an anime imageboard.
>>379382203
The dumb jew corps in america know they make better games
>>379382203
Here it's just newfags/idiots in the wrong place.
Outside, people just don't like seeing things that are out of their comfort zone.
>>379382203
>Pre-propaganda: jap games were the coolest
>Propaganda: every japanese game is a weeb unworthy of the GOTY title
>>379383712
Propaganda requires someone to push it. When every outlet and the majority of vidya players staunchly disagree, I find that unlikely,.
>>379382758
Literally this.
No one in the U.S. likes getting out of their comfort zone. The reason for this is because at an early age our school system doesn't put a strong sense of fun and curiosity into the minds of children. Therefore, our generation sees no positives in going out to learn about new things unless they are forced to. A good example of this would be math and how students almost never apply the subject until later in life. This causes them to say things like "wtf are we learning this" and "we are never going to use this". In order to stop something like this from happening we need to give them a fun real world situation for them to apply it to, like coding video games.
People like japanese games just fine. The weird otaku crap you're thinking about have a stigma in Japan too.
>>379382203
Calling everything weeb is pretty much a meme at this point, and you know how much /v/ likes memes
>>379384384
I'm not thinking about those, and yeah there are some Japanese games that are received fine in the west like most Capcom games.
I mean, games like the Tales of or Trails series aren't particularly egregious IMO yet the west doesn't seem to receive them very well. Neptunia yeah I can understand but not those two series.
anime games are often code for shit games. And is not people's fault. Blame Japan and their shit developers for creating so much shit anime games that it became a meme.
>>379384593
It's better this way.
>>379382203
>muh anime imageboard
you fucks are a bunch of contrarians anyway, if the masses started worshiping your pantyquests you would abandon them. there is no benefit to you for normalfags to enjoy jap games
>>379382203
r/the_donald newfriends.

To be fair, I studied Engineering for 5 years and not once did I ever have to use what I learned with Calculus at my job right now. I should have just learned Engineering Surveying, AutoCAD and Trigonometry and be on my way. Not that I'm complaining since the pay keeps me buying vidya.
>>379384272
I think 'I don't like anime thus I don't enjoy anime styled games' is a much more likely explanation than that armchair psychology. Cute though
>>379382203
An anime artstyle is a huge red flag for me. Mostly poor games blatantly designed to appeal to waifufags in my experience.
>>379386326
This. There is no need for paragraphs detailing someone's pysche on why some people don't like things. They just do.
Same way I can never stomach Mario games. I just don't like it anymore.
>>379382758
>>379384272
Or maybe the narratives of western storytelling are just superior? Maybe JRPG's haven't been as good or interesting as WRPG's since the early 2000's? Maybe we don't want to see 6 year old demons wielding swords and saving the world for the 20th time in a fucking row and Japan needs to get innovative. Their homogeneous society is leading to homogeneous ideas and people bereft of any creative ability.
As a fan of eastern games if I had to take a guess it'd be unoriginality, from artstyle to gameplay. Western games suffer from similar problems but Western media is bought by Western game companies, so it's only the nips that take damage in Western press.
>>379386556
>people bereft of any creative ability.
>>379386556
>this is what TLOUfags believe
Maybe because some people just don't like the anime aesthetic?
It was a case in the 70's and I doubt it will still change today.
>>379386556
Only people who don't play JRPGs say this, there are plenty of good modern JRPGs just as there are good modern WRPGs.
Automata, Bloodborne, and the Souls games are all amazing and all JRPGs. Only the Witcher 3 is a WRPG made within the past decade that can surpass them.
>>379386841
This is so true. Even in good games like tw3 everything is still brown and green.
>>379386968
Muh artstyle is an autistic reason to dislike a game.
>>379386968
>all jap games have an anime aesthetic
Still wrong
When people say they don't like JRPGs, most of the time they mean the "anime aesthetic waifu" type of games. JRPGs like Dark Souls and Final Fantasy are often received just fine.
There are people who legitimately dislike anime aesthetic but like Persona 5. Why is this so popular with normal people? It has every cliche and anime archetype in the book; what makes it an exception?
Similarly why do people like Street Fighter while having an aversion to other fighting games like Guilty Gear with the "It's too anime!" excuse when Street Fighter have people shooting fireballs from their palms, having gratuitous fanservice and actual degenerate trannies?
>>379387205
>Final Fantasy are often received just fine
This is what bothers me the most. I fail to see how FF is any less 'weeb' than, say, Tales or Kiseki.
>>379387434
Mix of nostalgia and the realism approach in terms of style. It gets a free pass because of that.
>>379387426
Cause cool demons and shit bro. Just make things slightly edgy or bloody and it has dudebro appeal
>>379382203
Latent racism still.
>>379387426
The western FGC is deeply rooted to Capcom. The old guards of the scene grew up on Capcom games so there is obvious bias to Marvel and Street Fighter. The brand is more or less infallible; even if SFV is bad, it will still be considered as premier fighting game in many events.
>>379382203
Because most Japanese games that aren't Nintendo are " too weird", "too pervy", "too antiquated", etc.
>>379382203
On 4chan it's just false flaggers fighting against other false flaggers
>>379386985
All those "JRPGs" have western elements that make them appealing.
>>379386985
Souls and Bloodborne aren't JRPG's, they borrow heavily from European victorian eras and American author H.P Lovecraft.
>>379388165
All those "good WRPGS" have Japanese elements that make them appealing.
>>379388165
>>379388381
>jrpgs have to be set in japan
Um, not how it works, sweetie
>>379387120
Most of them do. This is why games like Souls, Resident Evil and MGS get a free pass.
>>379388678
>Japanese man makes western game.
>/v/eebs: "it's a Japanese game."
sure thing sweaty
>>379388416
Yeah like? And by elements, I mean very obviously Japanese elements.
>>379382203
There really isn't. Any push back against it is mostly normal "what is this nerd shit?" you'd see in anything niche, which A HEALTHY AMOUNT of Japanese vidya are, niche. Special interest. Video games are super huge now, so there's more people in the population aware of the niche crap.
>>379382203
The art style, "story" and fans for many of these games are repulsive to western audiences. Look at FFXV, why would any western gamer want to play as a character that looks this stupid? I watch anime and even I don't want to!
>>379389193
Well if you were a teenager during the late 2000s then maybe.
>>379389000
>pokemon has 4 japanese games and 3 western games
This is how you sound
The same games journalism that gave Persona 5 a 94 average on Metacritic?
Do you realize how mentally retarded you sound right now?
>>379389193
Most of FF sales are in the west though and that includes XV
>>379389096
And again I can just say the same thing back to you but say Western instead.
>>379389096
It was a joke, there's no good wrpg
>>379389428
