I've always considered the canon pairings to be:

Either Yukari or Aigis. Aigis seems to be the favorite girl of the Atlus staff, and she certainly gets the most merch, but I feel like they wanted Daddy Issues McGee to be the real partner for Minato, given that they both have dead parents and shit so that they can come together on that level.

Rise, probably, but Chie seems like she has strong canon potential too. An argument could probably be made for Yukiko, but she's so unimpactful that it's hard for me to make an argument for her with any real conviction. Still, of all the girls I would say Rise feels the most 'canon' to me, given how hard she goes for it throughout the story. Beyond that, I don't feel any of the girls have an especially strong connection with Yu above one another, given that he's the blankest blank slate in all of Persona. He's just a masculine dude with a lot of charisma that you're supposed to easily self-insert onto; he has no character of his own beyond a love of fishing.

Makoto. They just compliment each other too well for me to not see her as canon. He's a good person who was wrongly martyred and is trying to prove he's trustworthy, while she's bascially the paragon of virture around school that's trying to figure out of she even wants to be that. For what it's worth, I am a combination Elizabethfag/ Mitsurufag for P3, a Naotofag for P4, and a Takemifag for P5. I simply find the above pairings to feel the most 'canon', but these girls are the ones I actually pick when I play the games.

A long time ago I dated a girl who was really sweet and incredibly stupid. Her being so nice to me all the time made up for her being dumber than a sack of dead kittens (she worked at Disney World for an entire year and once wondered out loud why she had never seen Walt visit the park even once,) and was instantly amazed by me knowing even the most basic things, like how exactly credit cards work.

She was the one who kept going on about justice and shit for the first few palaces. Then Makoto takes over that role.
Then she becomes that one who character in self-doubt who keeps asking if what the group is doing is right or not. Then Makoto takes over that role too.

It's less that "she's just an airhead" and more that the writers had no idea what to do with/gave up on her character after the first few palaces.

Ann is the best written character until Makoto shows up, and then her characterization just kind of falls apart into an incoherent mess of half-baked modeling aspirations and generic girly shit. The only defining trait she kept whatsoever is that she's sort of a fembro with Ryuji and knows how to hang with the guys.

I think I would change that to "the most extroverted," which is why she's so direct about her feelings. The other girls in the cast are much more introverted, and that makes it harder for them to be open and honest about their feelings. It isn't that they're less affectionate, but instead it's that they're more socially awkward, trepedatious, and uncertain. Makoto, for example, constantly worries that everything she says will be taken as weird or awkward. Futaba is a socially incompetent weirdo that makes the MC into her personal caretaker of sorts. Ann is the most normal girl, and is arguably the most independent of the bunch, which translates to different expressions of her emotions.

While I dont like Ann too much I love her persona.

Carmen is very on point with the novel: The fact Ann is shunned for her look and origins (like Carmen in the novel since she is a gypsy) and both are haunted by a mad lover who is more that willing to hurt her when she doesnt submit ( José for Carmen, Kamoshida for Ann) Also the cigar since Carmen in the novel enjoys smoking.

She, alongside Goemon and Robing Hood are my favorite personas in the game.
