Angel investors are notorious for taking absolute control over the company to protect their investment. Notch is stupid with his money but I don't think he'd be stupid enough to hand someone millions of dollars and then let them do whatever the fuck they want. So even as an angel investor he'd need to be involved in some aspect of the business.
