I find tekken to be one of the easier fighting games to get into since you can get away with mashing in the start while you are learning. Playing bots doesnt really say much about your skill level. They already knows all the buttons you press and choose to not block whenever they feel like it. It isnt accurate. In many scenarios you have to cheese the harder bots to win.

Anyone who's been exposed to more technical, more dynamic fighting games will quickly pass on tekken. Other top fighters, namely Street Fighter, KoF and MK/Injustice have advanced impressively in their latest installments; but the relic that is tekken just can't seem to evolve, furthermore many combos can be done simply by hitting 1-button, and the nearly "instant-kill" rage art moves are just laughably broken. Instead of a supplying a proper fighting engine, matches in T7 seem to rely heavily on "who can get their rage move off first". So many elements of the gameplay don't even require any sort of skill. In my book, slow motion over and over again also gets old very quickly. And in the end, it's more of a novelty or gimmick rather than an actual, thought-out fighting game mechanic. But hey, the casual crowd will be pleased!

Tekken 7 is the first fighting game that really clicked with me. It feels good and the limb based combat is just so much more intuitive to me.

I was born in 1989. I was a "kid" in 1999. I was gifted a PS from my older brother around 98 with just loads of demo discs, some solid games like Resident Evil 3, NFS High Stakes, FFVI port etc.

Pretty much just played only that Tekken 3 demo disc though. Was about a few years later I actually got the full game. To this day I know nothing about the actual Tekken story, all I do is pickup the new game and play Xiayou against the hardest difficulty and then practice blocking and spacing/jabbing on friends who just button mashed.

I'm not saying I'm the best at the game, I'm saying I'm the best at Xiayou. I don't perceive how I can get better with her. I can only get worse i.e. blink, be half asleep, not paying proper attention to opponent etc.

Actually, I nearly got beat by one of the nips last year using that muslim character in the arcade since I wasn't familiar with him at the time.
