I'm about 5 hours into the game. Can no other character can stand up to Velvet? You can literally just mash buttons with her and she slaughters everything, even on the hard difficulty.

I just got Eizen. So far he doesn't seem that impressive, but it might just be that I don't know how I'm supposed to use him or that he needs more artes to be great. Since his break soul requires him to knock down or stun foes it seems a bit unreliable. His standard martial artes seems good though.

I suppose that's true. Velvet just felt a bit more mash friendly than usual, but that might just be this combat system in general.

Another question. How do people like to set up their artes? I can't say I'm a fan of the new system of having 4 arte chains bound to their own buttons. It's such a hassle to not be able to use the arte you want, instead having to go through other artes first.

Luke is literally a spoiled 5-8 year old. It honestly makes perfect sense for him to be a whiny cunt.
Besides it's pretty amusing to have a main character that's a complete trainwreck from top to bottom for most of the game.
He gets better, and in doing so becomes entirely basic Tales MC, but I honestly loved the whiny bits for the novelty.

I know he has his reasons and even a few redeeming factors early on despite being a prat, but it gets kinda old after a while. One thing I'm baffled about modern tales is that how can people accept the plot to get so incredibly rushed in the beginning?
A character gets introduced and 5 mins later boom he's in your party and you are chitchatting. Velvet is doing errand and suddenly one night all is ruined! The games are ~40 hours long so why the fuck can't they devote enough time for characters to get introduced and developed? I think it's gotta be because fans basically buy the games for certain characters and not for the overall experience so they can't delay it too much but holy fuck it's stupid.

Or have I missed something? Is it possible to start a combo at any arte stage? Like if I want to use swallow dance without doing any other action first when having artes set as picture related?

There's an ability or skill you gain at a certain point that will give you more shortcuts. (On console it was like right shoulder+ one of the combo buttons) You can set any skills to that. So you can keep all your combos and just whenever you feel like it spam the shortcut for individual skills.

Couldn't you also take one combo set that you're not using and just set Swallow Dance in all four slots.

I guess I could, I just like to have many options. If you have the artes sphere item in games like Vesperia and Xillia you can have 16 artes equipped and have immediate access to whichever one you wanted. I was looking for something like that.
