The romance option with Gil was so disappointing because you spend so little screen time with him. You basically have to imagine that you had all these off-scene moments together, because otherwise it's nothing more than a couple cutscenes and a very limited amount of dialogue choices, and from that you're supposed to believe you're suddenly in love.

Whereas the squad mates actually spend a lot of time together so it's a lot more believable. Though Jaal,... gross. Not that a black man is much better but Scott should really have a human male squad mate option

The armor isn't palette-swaps except for human-asari. The actual reasoning is that they'd have to design new animations and basically redo ship designs, interior designs, etc to make it make sense for a non-humanoid.
