Been playing Pokemon since the late 90s, pirated Sun and I uninstalled it three hours in.

Something about the game turned me off to it so hard. First time I genuinely was turned off to a Pokemon game. I enjoyed X & Y, so I was surprised with how bad it was.

Nintendo doesn't own Game Freak. They just own 32% of the Pokemon brand. Game Freak has made games for Playstation and Xbox. They're working on the Switch already, but they can't get a project out immediately. Making something small-scale like Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon that re-uses the engine and assets isn't taking away from the time being devoted to making the new Switch engine.

It'd be perfect for their plan to build a robust online library. Splatoon was a hit on the Wii U, but I'm not sure about switch. Mario Kart 8 seems to be doing OK, ARMS may or may not be successful. But Nintendo literally owes their existence to Pokémon, so Pokemon on switch would be perfect.
