Is everyone forgetting the scene where the main character's put in a situation he knows for sure he's going to die in and he starts praying and pleading to god to forgive him, and then once he lucks out and survives he goes right back to shitting on religion?

The main character isn't written to be a perfect person who's right all the time. He's not someone the writers want viewers to look up to.
