I don't think that having a smaller, tighter roster is inherently a bad thing.

However, having a small roster that is like 80% blatantly copy and pasted rehashed crap from the last game with very few changes, THAT is what makes MvCI shit. If they were going to be laszy and straight up recycle characters verbatim from UMvC3, they should have at least gone all out and gave us a HUGE fucking roster with almost every character returning.

But as it stands we only have 28 characters, and only 7 of them are actually new.

Disgraceful, especially when you consider how bizarre some of the choices for who made the cut are. Nemesis over Wesker when you have RE5 Chris? So they copypaste character assets left and right and then bump up model quality and textures/shaders, tweak some animations, maybe the occasional new or different animation for tweaks. But overall put in less characters than MvC3 at its launch even with new additions in mind (28 base for I versus 36 base for 3). Ontop of this they've supposedly simplified and streamlined the gameplay, which could be either a control assist or they flatout used the "reboot" excuse to cut it down. Not to mention it's 2 v 2 like the older games also as part of their reboot excuse.

And in the game's second trailer that shows the villains, they announce DLC well before the game is to even be released ontop of the fact that while Ultron is in the base game from the get-go, Sigma is DLC (likely on-disc, remember how much people rose a stink about that for SFxT?) just to jew out fighting game fans and Mega Man fans alike. Not to mention several more unknown characters planned for DLC with a likely season pass ready day one.

Street Fighter and Darkstalkers could co-exist with one another, although Darkstalkers power levels are way above SF's from what I know.

Devil May Cry and Darkstalkers would also mesh very well. Throw Ghosts 'n' Goblins in there too, because that's a no-brainer.

Resident Evil could easily take place at the same time as SF but since RE is all about bioterrorism and whatnot, there'd be very little overlap there.
