In Shadow of the Colossus you respawn asleep at the nearest shrine if i remember right, it's cool to imagine the battle where you died was just a prophetic dream Wander was having.

some of these don't work in the sense that dying and being reborn/cloned/rerolled into a different character somehow lets you have access to the previous character's memories
I mean in the EoT movie, PS:T, Bioshock, Dark Souls and EYE, he's still the same person so he remembers what killed him (and the player) and could plan ahead from that.
In other games were dying means you have to start over or you lose the character and get a different one, when you get to the part that killed the previous character, you (the player) and your new character somehow already knows about the old one's death and avoid it.
