Ok, I admit it.

I was wrong about RE7. It's fucking great and is really a return to form to older games. But that demo was fucking awful, totally gave the wrong impression.

It's awful. I got it for 25 bucks day 1 as a CD key, and had purchasing it off the Steam not removed my right for refunding, I'd returned it less than 2h into the game.

The puzzles are certainly shit, but the overall atmosphere and exploration is almost just like REmake. They even got opening the doors right. Certainly it also has some weak points such enemy variety and somewhat gimmicky boss fights.

IMO, 2, Nemesis, and Code Veronica will always be the best ones that defined the franchise

No, it very, totally is not. I have no idea how people can even say this; RE1 / REmake was very non-linear 3D puzzle that first made you map out your playing area, then start unraveling the puzzles in order to unlock new sections, all while taking care of your limited supplies while also trying to adjust your inventory so you don't get fucked up by unforeseen encounters or item pickups. First timers have had hard time locating the first item storage box even.

RE7 literally FUNNELS you linearly from one are to another, makes sure you cannot miss saverooms and boxes, and all encounters happen in scripted manor.
Doors? You literally just RUN through them, and never need to worry about whats behind.

I tried to get into RE6, specially after reading here about how good the gameplay was and how insane the campaing turns.
But I just I can't, I really can't get into it. And I tried, I already finished Leon's and Chri's campaings and reached half of Jack's one but I don't even want to continue anymore. Every campaing is basically the same, I hate those fucking "find the 3 keys while an unkillable enemy follows you!!" segments and QTE everywhere and the bosses being so bland and boring. And I hate how the game is supossed to be full action now but the inventory is smaller than the RE4 briefcase.
I think I gave the game a fair chance, but it just isn't for me.

Haven't played 7 but I've enjoyed every mainline game well enough. 6 was painfully mediocre but the co-op kept a roommate and I entertained for a semester. REmake, 2 and Nemesis are still my top 3 though.

Are the Revelations titles worth playing?
And is their a specific version of the first that is considered the definitive one? Was thinking I'd go the wiiU route just to give the little box something to do aside from netflix.

It had something so many modern games don't have: focus.

It does not change its rules and gameplay for specific setpieces, and you can actually MASTER its actions just by playing it enough. It also still tried to stick to its survival horror roots, even if the pacing was cranked up.

RE1 is amazing, REmake makes it amazier
RE2 is a fantastic sequel.
RE4 is spectacular and made perfect sense at the time.
RE7 is a great albeit flawed game, but it succeeds at re-imagining the franchise in a modern context and puts the series in a strong place.

I think RE7 is probably the best RE game since 3.
I love 4 but I'm more a horror fan then an action fan so 4 felt like it was missing some things for me to really enjoy it.
But 7 really did bring back what I loved about the series with tight pacing legit horror and threats around ever corner I loved the characters and for the first time in ages I gave a shit about an RE story.
It has its flaws of course like the simple puzzles and pretty crap final boss but the stuff it gets right more then makes up for it.
I hope to god Capcom take what they learned from 7 and make RE8 a true horror masterpiece for this generation.
Also please give us a RE2 Remake trailer at E3 please.

I liked RE7 but the weak last act and kind of weird pacing kept me from thinking it's great.

The pacing is a huge step up from RE6, but it still felt kind of wonky. The Bakers were hyped up as being some kind of Nemesis-like enemy and people were worried that was all we where gonna fight; but being chased by Jack and Marguerite makes up an incredibly small part of the game, and you mostly fight the shitty goo monsters. I loved the main house section of the game when you look for dog heads while being hunted by Jack, but it's over so damn quickly. It could have lasted longer.

I liked the map though, the front yard and trailer acting as a sort of center to the game was great, good level design.

IMO, 5 had a point, it was the climax of the series. Wesker went down with Uroboros and burned alive, and the entirety of his T-virus research and tricell went up in flames.

6 is needlessly dragging on the plot, it has no point to exist, Neo umbrella is stupid. nobody cares about simmons trying to revive a dead corporation, and your star villain is gone. It all just falls apart into stupid little side stories that really don't amount to anything.

7 is the final nail in the coffin, because while it returns to "old school gameplay" (Which it doesn't in the slightest) it has absolutely nothing to do with the oriignal 5, and now suddenly its related because chris shows up? Come the fuck on capcom. This needed to be a non-numbered spinoff if anything like Revelations. Calling this 7 is just a disgrace, there even BEING a 7 is a disgrace.

A game with RE7's production values would never have happened if the Resident Evil name wasn't tied to it. If it was a new IP or even a spin-off title it would probably never have happened. But since this actually was RE7 they could afford stuff like making the whole thing playable in VR.

Branding gives a product a sort of momentum and weight, by calling this Resident Evil 7 Capcom was making a statement about how seriously they actually took this new direction.

RE5 with co-op is better than RE4. RE4's locations were boring and it had just as much action as 5. I really liked the small RE5 chapters.

I have 6 on steam and have played it for 35 minutes before I got annoyed with the handholding.

I love RE4, but that's fucking wrong.
RE4 doesn't focus on anything. And that's what I love about it. You start the game off in a strange european village with crazy mutated villagers. Next, you enter a giant castle with cultists everywhere and a giant robot chasing you (ON FOOT). Then you go to a military island with soldiers that shoot at you with rifles, RPGs and more.
It's so fucking stupid and inconsistent.
I love it.

I enjoyed RE7, probably moreso because it's strays away from how cumbersome the main plot became. But the game itself provides nothing original. It was fun, but you can link some of the main ideas to so many other games.

All you need to do is shoot them in the stomach to split them in half, then shoot the exposed parasite a few times or burn it with an incendiary grenade.

It's still pretty gay though since those things just respawn infinitely so killing them is often a waste of time. You only need to kill them when they're in your way.
