If nothing else he's the best written part of his game. Multi-faceted, meaningfully flawed, grows over time, has both direct and indirect effect on the characters and story because he has *actual character agency*, complex and even conflicting emotions that aren't paper thin; he's the only character of depth in the whole game.

Tbh, Cloud isn't even the best character of his game, let alone of the entire FF series, I mean, he is literally the same type of character as Noctis, with the sole difference between them being the apearance. The best character is Kefka, by far.
