- Several of their innate abilities were pilfered for cross-role skills, and they didn't receive an equal amount of new abilities. You'll need to use your cross-role slots to get them back, and you won't be able to take everything you used to have (You can pick 5 out of Cleric Stance, Protect, Esuna, Divine Seal, Shroud of Saints, Swiftcast, Surecast and Eye for an Eye).
- Their new gauge mechanic is completely RNG-based with a very low 20% chance of proccing a Lily when using Cure I or Cure II, abilities which good WHMs don't use very often.
- Increasing the Lily gauge doesn't buff you, it just reduces the cooldown of your next Assize/Asylum/Tetragrammaton by a pitiful 4/10/20% depending on number of Lillies (doing this also spends the Lillies).
- Their new abilities are pitifully weak. Stoneskin is gone and replaced by "Divine Benison", which is a single-target 15% health shield, but consumes all your lillies upon use.
- Plenary Indulgence is just another AoE heal oGCD, except the healing is also reliant on 20% RNG stacks procced on party members when you use Cure and Cure II on them. It only heals party members with these stacks on them, and the stacks only last 30 seconds.
- They have ZERO party DPS utility, unlike AST with their cards, and SCH which just got a stronger version of Battle Litany on a shorter CD. Athough WHM has the highest personal DPS among healers, it's not nearly enough to make up for the others' party buffs.
- Thin Air is the only good new skill they got besides Stone IV. It makes all spells cost 0 MP for 12 seconds, with a 120s cooldown. Will mainly just be used for nuking with StoneIV/Holy in combination with Presence of Mind.
- Despite being a "pure healer" their healing isn't actually any better than AST/SCH. For every healing ability they have, AST and SCH have an equivalent or better one while also having more tools and party buffs.

The recent savage tiers and extreme fights can be planned down to the very second. You always know that first the boss does Mechanic A, then Mechanic B, and then he does both mechanics C and D in a random order, then he does Mechanic A but with a twist, etc. The fight is just about figuring out what the mechanics do, what order they come in, and knowing what you need to do in advance before the boss has even started. While that's fun in progression, it means that once you have figured out the fight it has nothing to offer you anymore and it just turns into boring routine.

A well-designed fight has a select number of basic mechanics that starts relatively simple but are eventually combined in ever more complex and UNPREDICTABLE patterns. I cannot stress that word enough, there needs to be much, much more unpredictability in fights, even after you have figured out the mechanics themselves. Players should be forced to adapt on the fly as while they know what the boss is capable of, they never know exactly what it is going to do next (or at the most have a vague idea). Fights should be about reaction, not anticipation. If an end-game raider can immediately discern what mechanic is going to happen next the fight is not designed well enough.

The best example in this game that I can think of is Melusine, which isn't exactly following what I described above, but comes fairly close. The fight itself is fairly straightforward on paper, it's just about managing Cursed Voice, Cursed Shriek, the Renauds and the adds that keep spawning during their fight (and their associated mechanics). Explaining what everything here does is simple, it's the combination of all the mechanics and handling it all simultaneously at a fast pace that's the real difficulty. We need more fights like that, and less like Brute Justice that is just a long string of self-contained mechanics that exist in a vacuum and happen in a completely pre-determined order.

The entire reason fflogs exist to begin with is EXACTLY because fights always looks exactly the same. When every fight is identical, you can't determine how good each party is at handling the fight because every single party that has cleared the fight has done so in the same way, so the only way to quantify skill between individual parties is how fast they can clear the fight via dps. If fights had more RNG this entire dps meta would never have become the norm to begin with.

The entire point is to give raid content longevity by not making it look exactly the fucking same every time you run it. If we have to wait 3-4 months between every new piece of content then the content should have replayability, and not just be something you clear once and then turn into a mindless farm while waiting for the next tier to come out.

Just from my experiance, Coil fights tend to be a lot more based on everyone doing mechanics rather than certain mechanics always falling onto certain people if that makes any sense. I could be wrong, but that's just how I remember it. Haven't done all of Coil in a while, but I've done a lot of T9 and T13, saddly unsynced.
