Going from 60hz to 144 hz is a brutal difference and having g-sync is almost mandatory if you dont have a constant 144 fps. Otherwise the fps drops and screen tearing would kill you

>games are advancing so slowly
>consoles are the reason because of their stand still tech
This is a stupid argument.
Even if consoles didn't exist modern video games would still be at around the same level of graphical capability because 90 percent of the market has PCs that ARE from last decade.
Companies would continue to make games with lower graphics because making better graphics costs more money and restricts the amount of people that will buy the game because most people aren't going to spend the money to constantly upgrade their PC just to keep up with bleeding edge gaming graphics.

TLDR even if consoles did not exist, companies would not magically start making retarded business decisions like pouring millions of extra dollars into making games so graphically intensive that only 5 percent of PCs can run them properly.

Game developers run for profit, they won't make games that most people can't play because it will never be profitable.
>>
I cant believe I'm saying this but I'm probably going to go AMD for my next build.

price/performance is finally too good to pass up.

>>
>>379261595
They're both pretty much the same at this point, they work exactly the same way. They're also both pretty much locked to their GPU counterpart, Freesync only works on AMD and GSync only on Nvidia. Nvidia could adopt Freesync, since it literally is an open standard, but they won't obviously.
Freesync monitors generally don't cost more than any other regular monitor (well, they do, because Freesync is a commodity only included in higher tier screens anyway), while GSync has to pay royalties to Nvidia and is much more expensive by default (add $150 to any screen you'd like, and that's what the same sceen with GSync will cost).

All in all, only comparing the sync tech, Freesync is better because it's cheaper and they both do the same shit.

>>379264347
False. Freesync works at 144hz.
Just an example I know off the top of my head that has 144hz Freesync:

What's annoying is the games that are CPU intensive tend to be made poorly and barely make use of 4 cores let alone 6, 8 or more. Sins of a Solar Empire comes to mind. Still great for other software that's designed better.

Generally speaking I think it's just about always worth it to upgrade if it makes a noticeable difference. It gets fuzzier when you talk about how frequent updates should be. The price isn't all that important since any adult with a job and no kids should be able to afford a high end PC
