Reminder that "muh 60fps" is a recent phenomenon in PC gaming perpetuated by console shitters who think they are enlightened because they bought a shiny new gayming PC.

10 years ago fps targets were unheard of on PC. You bought the best GPU that fit your budget and adjusted the graphics and fps to your liking. If it ran smooth at 50fps nobody gave a shit it wasn't muh 60fps. If you needed 300fps in Quake you lowered the graphics settings.

The problem is that on PC frame rate isn't consistent like on console. If a game runs at 30-45 fps you get dropped frames and it looks and plays like a stuttery mess, when I play a console game at 30fps it's completely fine.

What I hate the most is FPS drops.

I can tolerate 30FPS but fuck me if it drops to 15FPS when shit happens.

To me, the biggest thing that makes the game look like shit is FPS drops. I'd give up shadow quality and texture quality if it ensures it stays at a high FPS.

They're in the low to mid end spectrum of framerate. It'd be like getting a half decent pair of headphones as opposed to holding a used bootleg russian car stereo to your head for all your music listening needs.
Even the higher end of framerates isn't really that bad and probably comparable to getting a solid external DAC/Amp since there is a perceivable difference.
Audiophiles on the other hand can get really out of hand with snek insulated 1000$ cables that are kept off of any conceivable surface and fucking rocks and shit. Fucking madmen.

Okay, so something airing at 24 fps is really watching it at 23.976 fps, and watching something at 30 fps is really watching it at 29.97 fps.
So we're not actually watching X full frames per second, but rather X full frames per (1 + 1/999) seconds?

If it's because there were 525 horizontal lines in CRT televisions, wouldn't that have changed when signals started being broadcast at a higher resolution? Are shows made to work with 23.976 fps in mind (ie. every 999 seconds (16m39s), exactly 1000 frames have been broadcast)? If so, wouldn't a switch to actual X full frames per second mean that all pre-existing NTSC video would have to be sped up by 1/999% to remain compatible?
