The story is what drove Mass Effect. It was one of the first games to ever do it. Then they decided that other people could write a story as good as the first one.

I think the first Mass Effect, writing-wise is the greatest wasted potential in combining writing and video games.

You had coop multiplayer, which I thought was pretty nice.

It's a space drama with a combat interface. I like it, but flaws abound and you can go fuck your own face not seeing it. The last Mass Effect was mediocre and it's borderline not deserving of belonging to the franchise.
