Level 300+ Master ranked player here: This game is designed pretty badly, which is why I like to think people don't like it. I'll give Blizzard a little bit of slack since it's their first FPS ever, but they seriously slack off with balance to the dismay of most players. That, and by their own intentions they make easy-mode retard proof characters that are designed to be cancerous to appeal to everyone. For an example, I forget in what interview, but Kaplan stated they made Symmetra to be easy for players who can't aim well, so they can enjoy the game the same way as actually skilled players. That kind of design choice, with awful balancing turns people off I find. The only reason I still play is because higher ranks are like an entirely different game desu.

It's generally fun for a few weeks, after which it becomes the most boring shit you have in your catalog save for the rare event, which might hold your attention for a day or two. The game is just barely one year old, that shouldn't be a common conclusion to come to for a "competitive" game.

It isn't that bad of a game. The problem is that it's marketed as a competitive game when it is far fucking from it. There's literally no reason for this shit to still be relevant other than the fact Blizzard had a billion dollars to use to tell 16 year olds that it's their version of the Quake and Counter Strike the older kids liked when they were growing up.

Big budget games have more money to spend on optimization. In addition, in many cases they will opt for a less technically impressive game than they could for the sake of getting more people invested in the game and having satisfying experiences. That is why games like Overwatch, CS, Dota, TF2 can run on empty shoeboxes with a few batteries thrown in them.

The other day I caved and got it on sale, it probably wont be on sale for any less any time soon so that's definitely poops mcgee. I've put about 12 hours into it so far after putting about 200 hours into paladins which isn't even out yet. I gotta say after about 7 years on tf2 this game is ez mode tf2. By a wide margin but that's not a bad thing in any way. I do agree that like tf2 you have to be smart about what your doing you can't just expect to go ham and win all the time like so many other shooters.

I'm not lying. I occasionally decide to play comp Overwatch, less than 100 matches each season.

I made it to mid-diamond last season, mostly playing Mercy in solo comp, and when I invited a few of my friends to play at a party they declined as I wouldn't be able to group with them. As they were in low silver and bronze at the time. I was really surprised at how, having never seen me play, they thought I was some stellar player. I consider myself to be pretty average, so it was odd.

In my last few dozen matches I wasn't able to play Mercy, as the folks that would "main" dps heroes wouldn't pick off key targets on the enemy team. So I ended up playing a fair bit of S76, and while I got a lot of cards, and plays of the game, I know my tracking isn't that great and I can't land head shots consistently.

Especially at the lower tiers, you can't expect "the dps/hitscan" to be the one to counter phar+mercy. everyone needs to assist. whether its soldier/mcree + boosted mercy or zenyata discord on mercy with hitscan.

Widow for me is easy to take out the pharah+mercy, most times though I got no one keeping the winston off my ass and it makes it hard to get clean shots off.

The problem with Pharah is that in the game's current state the only people that have a hitscan weapon also have major damage drop-off at range, so there's no effective counter to Pharah besides Widowmaker- and in low rank there's probably someone already playing her because she's a retard magnet, and at high rank she's verboten and you'll get banned for griefing.

Realistically they need to add another hero that can fly to deal with Pharah. Or someone that can knock her out the air.

It's an okay game, I just like playing games where the weapons sound great to fire and have an impact. It also doesn't help that I'm a team player so I end up defaulting to Mercy/Reinhardt as the one healer/tank most of the time, then nobody switches and I can't do my role because the role I normally fill isn't there. It just feels like I'm playing WoW again where the tanks and healers are the hardest part of getting a functioning group together. Unlike WoW though anybody can be anything so I feel more or less forced into a role rather than being a role I've selected from the get-go. There's less "choice" in the matter. Like if OW had a matchmaking system that said "do you want to play a tank?" I feel like it would benefit more because then insta-locking DPS would stop getting matched with each other and be able to work with people that want to play tanks/healers. They already have this shit in WoW, I know they have had that concept since WOTLK. Just noticed I fucked up what I was trying to say: if I try to play not-healer/tank nobody tends to switch so if I want to play good I have to play these roles nobody wants to play. I get really bored playing the same roles, same heroes constantly. I can't even play half the roster because I'm either directly hurting the team or they're not fit for the situation. It's dumb.
