TL;DR: How do you deal with vidya burnout /v/?

I've got a huge as fuck backlog but it's like I'm afraid to start up any of them. What is this feeling of fear? It's not even something like "the game will be shit" or something like that, it feels more like a fear of starting something itself.

I think the last games I played were Vanquish and Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen, both of which were great, but now that they're over, I find myself just sitting down and blanking out staring at my vidya during my time before dinner and sleep. What made me worried is that I pretty much did the same during the weekend and ended up watching anime and a shitty movie instead.

How do I fix this /v/?

Please help

Stop keeping a backlog like an autist and play when you feel like it.
>>
>>379178984
That's the problem, it's not the backlog, it's the fact that I can't bring myself to play anything
>>
>>379177912
Get Depressurizer and sort your backlog on rating/time to beat, and start cracking.
>>
>>379177912
Stop treating video games as chores. Stop making a "backlog". Just play whatever you are in the mood to play.

Sometimes I see a video game being talked about here on /v/ and I think, "oh, this looks interesting", then I pick it up. Stop treating video games as things to be checked on a list. You don't have to play everything, anon. It is not a competition. There is no achievement or prize at the end.

when it happens i play older games, games i like or literally force myself to play something
for me it's hard to play anything since i got a job, because i don't have that much time anymore so i don't really play except on weekends
>>
>>379179081
Just accept the fact that you don't want to play those games and wasted your money.
I dealt with that shit by just finding/playing some hidden gems/old games i never played before. Hell, instead of playing anything in the backlog i emulated Final Fantasy 1, it was actually pretty fun

>Depressurizer
Thanks anon, will check that out
>>379179140
To be honest, I never made a backlog, I just have a lot of games I have yet to play.
>>379179248
Well anon, I don't have a SO either, so I've got time after work to unwind with some vidya and then shitpost here after dinner, but for about a week, I've been feeling like one of those shitposters that don't actually play the game they talk about.
>>379179450
The thing is that I had wanted to play those games for a while, but I just can't do it. I just go blank when I look at my screen.
>>
>>379179743
I'm using this fork btw, which I think is an improvement over the original: https://github.com/Theo47/depressurizer
>>
>>379179743
Nigga most of those games are casual indie trash that you can beat in 4 hours tops, you have no excuse.
>>
>>379177912
Start masturbating a lot. Then you'll get burnt out on fapping and move back to video games.

Lostorage could have had a better ending but instead they ended with a crappy one
>>
>>379177912
Actually burnout games are pretty fun. Too bad we will never see another one because fucking EA.
>>
>>379180471
The entire show was crappy tho
>>
>>379180815
Good point plus the requirements for the game and the challenge were dumb as hell
>>
>>379180934
Even the rules of Duel Masters were better thought out than that shit, even the localised version

>>379180551
Wasn't the new Most Wanted basically burnout?

>so many interesting games to play
>scared that I won't get the full experience of one game because another game will take my interest before I finish the original game
>not sure if I'm playing a game for fun or if I'm playing it because I will feel unfulfilled if I don't finish what I started
>end up never finishing the original game and never playing the other interesting game because of the fact I never finished the original game
>this process continues forever

I know what you mean OP. The problem is not "treating games like a chore". The problem is determining whether or not you want to finish a game. I get just as much fulfillment by finishing a game as I do by having fun playing that game.

If boredom strikes in the middle of playing that game, it's a struggle of whether or not I should keep playing and feel fulfilled by finishing the game, or drop it halfway through because I'm not having as much fun as I feel like I should.

Fuck. I wish I was one of those people who could just go full out autismo over one single game for months/years rather than constantly be interested in new (not just "new" as in just released, but also old games that I never played that seem interesting) games every week.

Final Fantasy 1 was unironically good though.

You're chasing a high, op. A high that will never ever come back unless you abstain from vidya for a while. Try playing some tabletop, like d&d or pathfinder. Try some war games like x-wing, warhammer, or if your lucky, Mordheim. Try card games or vidya genres you never ever play.

I had this same issue not to long ago, so I read booms more than usual for about a month. Fixed my ass up

Hot Pursuit was and it was great

>>379181791
I'm chasing a possibility for the high, I feel like what >>379181231 says, I'm afraid I'd just quit in the middle and never experience something fully
>>
>>379182574
I dump games I lose interest in, but that are pretty good, in a "too finish" category. I plan revisiting those games once I'm through my backlog.

>How do you deal with vidya burnout /v/?
This happened to me 5 years ago and the only games I've played since have been Brogue and occasionally KSP.

Still feels strange and alien, considering how much time I used to spend playing games.
Embrace it OP, it's weird.
