Exactly. They tried to apply a real-time combat system to a game built on set interval updates. It doesn't work, nobody wanted it, and they released it anyway. All of the cool content they released like Araxxor, Vorago, KK, GWD2 doesn't matter since the combat system is vomit inducing.

RS3 has great visuals and there's a lot more stuff to do, but the cheap wow combat, mobile-style microtransactions and horrible interface make it unplayable. Legacy is not even a viable option if you want to actually do anything meaningful.

It didn't need to be fixed because the combat system was built for it. It went from being a comfy turn based system to a mutant clusterfuck with different modes that tried to emulate WoW and one inferior legacy mode shoehorned in that tries to appeal to older players.

I say both. Learning curve in oldscape is different. The low level experience feels more fleshed-out. Both get new content regularly, though, and have excellent endgame. If treasure hunter is a put-off, play osrs, but if it doesn't bother you, rs3 can be great too.

One thing I didn't like about runescape is how they added instant kill darts. Yes, it was a one time only event, you only got one, but it allowed people to completely negate the tz-tok-jad encounter, which while wasn't horribly hard required concentration and timing. I don't think an mmo should ever add items like that. Also hated the treasure hunter garbage, I don't know if you could take if off your screen somehow but it gave an artificial feel to the game with real money purchases for in game items.

I can give you 5 good reasons why I'm never touching that shit again

1. Community expects you to be a jack of all trades

2. Wanting to be independent in any combat is not only fucking expensive, it's also time consuming and literal grind (ex. runecrafting to be mage, fletching to be archer)

3. Most quests require a goddamn guide to finish, some if not most are just too outside the box

4. No more wilderness?

it's very grindy,but if you grind a lot you will eventually get to the point where you can just simply get so much gold you will never have to pay for a sub again

The p2w aspect is the bonds, you can buy bonds with real money and trade to players for in game money, so if you wanted you could buy anything with real money. There is skills that can't be bought, and skills that can, so even if you spent a shitload you couldn't get everything

This is not the case for RS3, where they regularly hold in-game events that give people who shell out money to boost their (even non-buyable) skills by a shitload.

OSRS does not do this because OSRS is a better game.

Not "Little boosts", the events they hold where there are skilling opportunities that require golden "things" from Treasure Hunter.

You can't really defend those. It's as pay-to-win as it gets. See: Pre-GWD2 event, the Summoning/Runecrafting portals, ect.

Though if you are thinking what I think you are, trading of bonds is heavily restrictive in that you have to take a 10% penalty in when you buy a bond and sell it. This is to prevent monopolies from controlling the entire market as the bond itself is probably the most important and powerful market in the game.

Also they are not stackable. Even in bank they are not stackable. So having tons of them is very difficult.

Don't get me wrong... I love EVE and everything about EVE. It just tells me that it's just super cool with its crazy amount of freedom. I love it. Just I end up being super bored ending up waiting or doing a grindier skill than Runescape, and worse I don't actually have control as to how fast I can train a skill. I mean you can train while logged out but you're basically paying for a loading bar.

The community was kind of bad in the PvM community at least. I found a good clan, so your counterpoint is correct, but as a whole egos ran rampant and were pretty elitist.

The combat system has some depth, sure, but when I played it again it felt a bit clunky. I think it was the way abilities interacted with movement and the long duration between game ticks.

If you like the game that's fine, you do you, but for a newcomer there isn't really anything other than quests that RS does better than other MMOs.
