looking for a decent MMORPG to fill that empty feeling of not playing a good MMORPG in awhile. Played WoW for about 8 years before it got stale, tried FF14 but the 2 second GCD got so frustrating after awhile (though I liked everything else), I've quest-caped RuneScape 3 and OSRS, so I'm open to recommendations.
>>
>>379145656
There's no such MMO. The reason you love WoW so much is because it was your first MMO, nothing will ever feel the same to you
>>
>>379145898
that sad realization.
>>
>>379145656
Theres a few you can play.

If you're looking for more skill-based combat, Tera or Vindictus might be up your alley as they're ARPG's. Tera is more ezmode dressup with a shitty story, but Vindictus is more of a Korean grindfest but with a pretty good story if you can forgive the rare bits of terrible voice acting and want to read walls of text.

Other than that, >>379145898 is right. You won't EVER have that kind of feeling again for an MMO.
>>
>>379145656
play warmane they released a tbc server a week or two ago and their icecrown wotlk server is fun but full of Filipinos
>>
FFXI is worth playing, as long as you avoid the cancerous endgame grindfest.

Worst grind in any MMO that I can think of, it's absolutely absurd how arbitrary the requirements are for late game equipment, especially these days.

FFXIV may be shit, but at least you don't have to sell your soul to get an end game weapon.

it's only kara though, who gives a shit

>>379146172

pretty much this, just play wow private servers

ideally if you have a crew to roll with but its like any version of wow, you can have fun playing solo and finding groups

By the time you get sick of one server you'll find a new one to play, its never ending

id say the admins arent as good (lol) as nost and the pops a bit lower but its your best option for vanilla

warmane just released their TBC server(s) and its pretty big, gummycraft might come out soon

theres a wotlk server thats in beta atm too tahts supposed to be the 'be all end all' of wotlk servers

in FFXI you hit level 10, and then do nothing but grind to cap in parties because there is no solo content.

Also, good luck getting your subclass without someone to help you.

Except you "play" Eve Online about as often as you update your spreadsheets.

90% of doing nothing, 5% doing something, 4% doing something worthwhile, and you live for the 1% where you did something so kick ass it's worthy of a story.

It isn't worth it to play for that 1%.

>>
>>379146591
XI has aged fine, it's just not a WoW-clone MMO, it's an older RPG similar to Everquest, but with its own style and mechanics.

I like XIV, but it's a much more shallow experience compared to XI, which has far more complexity in the job classes, how you fight in a party, with skillchains / magic bursts and whatnot.

It's worth playing if you like JRPGs, it's story and lore are pretty great and well done, and the world of Vana'diel is worth exploring at least once.

You can do almost everything solo these days, except the end game content like omen or ambuscade, which you can still solo on easier difficulties.

They have made a lot of changes, FFXI is definitely not the game it was 10 years ago, but at its core it's still the same experience, but with travel being MUCH easier than it was in the past, with numerous types of teleports to almost every zone in the game, as well as a faster leveling system such that you can max you level with these things called "Trusts" which are NPCs that are based on story characters that you can form your own parties with to battle solo.

It's worth playing for a month or two at least to just play through the story missions, and get to lvl 99 and have fun playing the different jobs, but aside from that I would still say avoid the end game content unless you really enjoy the game because the grind is so fucking awful it sucks all the fun out of the game.

It often has 20-40k characters on the shared, single-realm server.

>>379147274
Where do you get this information? All you have to do to find a fight is to undock from a tradehub.
>>
>>379147238
Pay-to-win is a complete myth. The stereotype is truthfully only a half-truth.

You can get into some great fights early on if you join the right corp (read: guild). It also is pretty time-consuming when you put effort into playing by your lonesome and try to man-mode whatever you see, but that is what corps are for.

To put the stereotype more accurately: You've so much to learn in such a short time that you'll never be a competent pilot without an assload of help.
>>
>>379146912
Wrong, everything, all of the low level content can be soloed with ease these days with Trusts. The game is too fucking easy these days, even the higher level content isn't that difficult, but it's just time consuming to max out job points (the newer Merit point system basically). Merits are a joke today, you can cap them in a few hours though.

Literally you can get ~10k exp per kill if you're fighting very tough to IT enemies, and doing it with trusts makes it so goddamn easy it's not even funny. You can level up to 99 in a day or two easily if you're really dedicated.

If you play on a server like Asura there's many players that will help newer people unlock subjobs / limit breaks, I've done so for quite a few people over the last few weeks that came back to XI due to the anniversary.
>>
>>379147418
Whereas 5 years ago it had WELL over 200k at any given time. The game has effectively died with the amount of bots and multiboxers going around.

Take it from a Broski who helped with the Fountain war and who played for 7 years straight. I know exactly what I'm talking about.

>The meme/stereotype around EVE is that it's extremely time consuming/can be pay to win, truth to this?
it can be p2w if you sink hundreds of dollars with a precise planning already prepared
needless to say, it's not, but it is time consumming, the game is basically "manage your time in the best possible way to make the game play itself to get the most stuff in tht shortest time"
it's f2p, no reason to not try it

>been thinking about ESO, thoughts on grinding and end game stuff? want to enjoy the grind.
ESO is basically skyrim online, with all the flaws and qualities, but the grinding is pretty satisfying since you have a tons of skills and jobs to get

probably already been said but with the GCD issue in FFXIV you can play monk or ninja to make up for it, they're a lot faster than all the other classes when it comes to button pushing
assuming you still have the free trial active try leveling up pugilist/monk for a while, at least until you get greased lightning 2
if you enjoy that then you'll love ninja, since that class combines the speed of the third greased lightning tier alongside keeping your attention on your mudras (quick button combinations to pull off various attacks or buffs)
however you'd have to play ninja until about 45 before you even are able to go sanic fast so until then it'd be a major pain in the ass

Vanilla WoW WAS great at the time. I'd played a lot of MMO's prior, and WoW felt like a watershed moment for the genre on release. It was balanced and polished to a level that its contemporaries couldn't dream of.

Now of course the view is contaminated with a decade of hindsight, changes in the game, and improvements to the formula made by it and other games.
>>
>>379166813
Are you really saying "balanced"? Vanilla WoW definitely had a feeling of polish about it over time that people would come to expect from brand new launched MMOs (despite Vanilla WoW launching in a terrible state that everyone forgets) but balanced was not part of it.

I started with WoW and I feel like that after qutting WoW and trying other MMOs. It's very obvious that WoW's success quashed any creativity in largescale MMOs for the better part of a decade and just now we are starting to see small crowdfunded sandbox MMOs and companies making hybrid games like Destiny/Division with themepark PvE elements.
