Buy Morrowind if you care about lore, world size and immersion, get Gothic 1/2 if you want to feel comfy and a more lively world.
Also Morrowind takes longer to patch/mod.

unless you want a directx 11 mod, that's all you'll need. the gameplay and content is fine the way it is. just don't forget to reassign some keys to make the controls a bit more comfortable. if you use a mapper like xpadder, you can even play gothic 1&2 with a gamepad.

Get all of them. Gothic 1 & 2:NotR and Morrowind with all its expansions are the apex of post 90's RPGs.

Gothic 1,2,3 are packaged together on Steam for $2.99.
Morrowind is on GOG for $3.74.

Now is the best time to buy all three. Great deals across the board. And you'll get Gothic 3 as a bonus which isn't worth playing but whatever, it's not like you're paying for it.
