you can download 4k texture packs that fix most of that. the shitty low-poly renders certainly don't help though. I love the game, but god DAMN it does not age well, especially the voice acting.

The remaster has more advanced lighting, rather.

The original is using "light" and shadow in the character texture art, faked drop shadow under the character, and either General ambient light or a single directional light in the scene.

Some of that is still in the remaster, but the characters are likely actually being lit by a handful of lights within the scene, and are casting an actual shadow based on the scene's primary light

The remaster just cut nearly all of the cutscene hand placed light sources and replaced them with ugly filters. And shadows are baked into characters in the HD version whereas the original had both baked shadows and real shadows.
