I was stuck at Firelink/Undead Parish for like, maybe a day, but I wasn't stressing it, I was listening to podcasts and farming a bit and just getting comfortable with the game, so it was enjoyable generally. Then I actually got GUD.

There's a lot of beginner traps like the cemetery and new londo. People don't know that after ringing the first bell you're meant to go to blighttown (entrance is in the sewers, the place with the giant rat and that huge boss), and blighttown is kind of annoying in general too- with the way the level is designed and just thematically as well, it's kind of sucky to be stuck down there for so long.

Problem is most people also dont pay attention to the dialogue, which cryptically tells you to go ring the bells, but most people think nothing of it because they didnt recieve a "QUEST ACCEPTED: HEAD TO THE UNDEAD SETTLEMENT AND RING THE FIRST BELL" with a giant red arrow pointing them in the right direction.

I went into the game semi-blind (had to check wiki a few times regarding content I didn't want to be missing, stats and where to actually go). The game barely tells you anything. Anyone who starts DaS NEEDS to know about iframes or else they will never succeed with the game. I purposefully avoided the drake sword, didn't get the lockpick, etc. and this was one of the best games I've ever played, but I definitely remember being stuck on a lot of different parts without knowing the correct way to get to my next goal (like the 2nd bell, for example)

first time i played i didn't even know i could summon
my build was shit and i had no idea of how the armor/load system worked

How to play Dark souls and enjoy it:

>Don't bother with melee, Use range or Pyromancy from a distance so nothing can get close to you.
>Raise only Endurance so you can always escape.
>Always keep The DaS wiki/Fextralife open, read about and study your next area thoroughly so nothing surprises you.
>If a boss gives you trouble, always look up the closest NPC summons and summon as many as you can for safety. Summon players too if you need more help
>Stay offline so you never get invaded
>Let the NPCs do most of the work, then come in and finish the job with minimal effort
>Summon Solaire for Ornstein and Smough, anf go hide in a corner untill its over.
>Run past all enemies and get to the next bonfire no point leveling if you don't fight.
>Don't fight Gwyn, instead just put on havel and parry him 4 times and win.
