Sony did some very similar shit with the vitas/psp with their memory cards

I just don't understand why Nintendo would charge this much, the console is already becoming a huge success. if it was more affordable people would have it in more than 2 rooms guarantee and would encourage people to buy the system

>>379132701

didn't know this I thought it was their propriety version of mini hdmi

i wasn't happy when the Vita overpriced its memory cards, and i'm not happy that Nintendo is over-charging on all of the Switch accessories.

I am always shocked when I hear people, even here, sincerely defending Nintendo as "the good guys". Reminder this is why there won't be any 3rd party docks and why the official one is so expensive.

Nintendo has a patent on the super complicated flowchart the dock uses, so no one else can replicate it and they get to charge a premium.

Not even close. I'm not saying I endorse it (since I didn't even give sony money for mine) but it is what it is. People used to pay almost $1/GB for SSDs as well, hell if you lived outside the US you paid way more than a dollar per GB. Shit sucks but if you want it you have to suck it up.
>>
>>379134927
My complaint is how quickly Nintendo prolapses those new models out. At this point you have to be some sort of fucking idiot to get the first version of their handheld, because within a fucking year or so they release another model that is superior by most metrics. How about just release the good one first, but of course they won't because they want to nickel and dime people as hard as they can.

>>379135514
I of course wound up eating absolute shit when I went to get a 64 gb card though...
>>
>>379133202
Unless this is also being offerred through Nintendo's repair website, this run of docks on store shelves right now is a limited run meant for lard asses who can't be assed to move their docks between tvs and middle class kids whose parents have joint custody.
>>
>>379135627

I could never go there. I've had a 32 fail on me before. If a 64 kicked the bucket I'd commit sudoku.
>>
>>379134432
At least the Switch actually comes with a dock (had to get a bundle to actually get a Vita memory card and even then they usually gave a shitty 4 gb one). But yeah, seems like a significant portion of the gaming internet is willing to give Nintendo a pass for things they'd crucify any other company for.
>>
>>379135536
I understand and yes I know. I paid (my mom and dad paid) a shit ton of money for my first 512 mb drive. I just can't see how people think it's still okay to buy anything where $1=1gb.
>>
>>379134432
Honestly if you're not buying these used you're dumb. You can get a 64GB for like 80 dollars, 70 if you're lucky.
>>
>>379135989
It's almost like newer types of storage media and drives made at lower volume have higher costs associated with them...
>>
>>379135071
They should release a switch package without the dock 80 bucks cheaper. But they surely will not do that because that's the reason they are getting so much money. Also I love Konata
>>
>>379135989
If there's a limited amount, it's niche, and people are willing to spend that much of course they're going to charge that much because if you actually need it then you'll still buy it.
>>
>>379135876
Like what?

>>
>>379134845
Because each edition doesn't make the previous obsolete. They still play the same games, they still run the same updates, they still offer repairs on all of them and spare parts exist plentifully.

The only real argument would be that the N3DS series has exclusive games and virtual console stuff and doesn't need a circle pad pro or amiibo peripheral, but even then, it's only if the upgrades interest you that you'd buy multiple. Hardware revisions are done to sell to a wider market that have different wants or finances available. Nintendo certainly wouldn't mind if fans bought every revision just to have them, but they aren't who Nintendo is targetting the revisions towards.

Sony did the same thing with their consoles since at least the PS2 and PSP and Nintendo's been revising hardware since the NES and Gameboy. Not every release needs to cater to a specific demographic or be expected to be bought or rebought by them.

The only thing that hooks to the back of the TV is a non proprietary HDMI cable which most people are probably swimming in by now or can get a spare for $5. The dock and the Power cord are the only things that need to move. And even if you had to move the TV to get at the HDMI, is it worth it to pay $90 to avoid doing it than to just do it anyways and save the money for something worthwhile?

The ONLY reason that slight luxury costs $90 is because nintendo said so, because fuck you.

>New 2DS XL: 2017

Barring the 7 years the Gameboy went without revision, the longest dry spell before a new handheld hardware release was 3 years, and most of the time Nintendo released hardware yearly. That is 17 hardware releases in 21 years. The GBA received 3 revisions in the 4 years it was relevant, with two in the same year. The gameboy color is the only release to not get a revision, and that's only if you consider it its own console and not a gameboy revision with exclusive software.

Bringing the dock to a different TV is still easier than hauling your ps4 or Xbox to a different tv.

Anons have already pieced together stuff that would do a similar job with cheap online Chinese parts. It came out to about $25-30 and that was without any power adapter.

Six versions of the 3ds in six years is a much more heavy and frequent release pattern than before, so, I guess thanks for proving me right.

Manufacturing uses the same shitty parts bought in bulk, below retail price. $15 was an exaggeration but that dock is definitely not $90 worth of parts. My computer case cost that and it does everything the switch dock does before it has breakfast.

The dock is $60. The bundle in OP's pic is $90 because it includes a power adapter which retails for $30.

>Expensive ass dock
>Doesn't even include the LAN adapter built in.
