A walksim is a game in which you do little more than walk around having the story exposited to you, the only obstacle is finding a trigger to advance the story. Running simulators, such as OUTLAST, are a related genre, basically walksims in which you intermittently run or hide from a monster.

Also serious answer, Final Fantasy IX and XII were both non-FF games that had FF elements shoehorned into them and the FF name slapped on because development was running long/expensive abd they wanted to guarantee more sales.
