people like us don't care or would even prefer the latter but the reality is these events are funded predominately through sponsors and so events need to adopt a look that is attractive to them.

I personally thought that full suits were too much for video games and still do. I'm not saying that people should come in witha raggy beard wearing a wife beater, but video games, even at its most competitive are more on the lax side compared to other compeititve fields. I think a collard long sleeve shirt (with an optional tie) and some slack and solid colored shoes should be enough to suffice.
