It's been out for ages in japanese arcades, but even the arcades don't have one good and one bad guy for each game yet and the console version is supposed to have as many cahracters as the other games and a story mode, so i wouldn't get my hopes up for a console release soon. Probably 3 years. The next stream is in 3 days hough iirc, they'll probably show another character or summon

It's not like most FF games have amazing, groundbreaking gameplay, most of the time the gameplay aspect is "just doing its job" as the "game" part of the title. And honestly, while annoying in certain aspects, II's gameplay isn't much worse than XIII and the sequels (especially Lightning Returns, fuck that garbage). FFII is definitively playable and even enjoyable at times.

They only really give a fuck about FFVII on that front. The PC version of VII got patched to have the original PS1 soundtrack, but VIII still has the original, awful MIDI soundtrack.
