Its alive. It will be even more alive when the server merge happens in a few month. It isnt pay to win. You can buy things from the shop that effect stats but most of those things are shit and anything you can buy with real money you can buy with ingame money.
The battle is in my opinion alot better then dofus and the stat system is 100000 times better and joining now would be the same as joining any other time.

Not really, at least for early and mid-game. You do get a bit more exp and loot rolls but you can still do fine without it. The latest content is sub only though, but we're talking about lv180+ stuff.

Servers are alive in the evening for their respective timezones. Just be sure to find a guild once you're 40ish since the nations divide the population and it's hard to find a party for dungeons there otherwise.

As someone who's only put a bit of time into it, I can say it's very rough for beginners. The tutorial gives almost no useful information, and a lot of the ability descriptions are no help at all.
I don't know if it's a translation issue or what, but half the time I had no idea what my abilities did. I think you may need an actual phd in quantum physics to play as a xelor.

Iops have always been alright as a class.
It's just that, somehow, a lot of people playing that class fit the Iop stereotype and do very retarded stuff like jumping in the middle of a mob group, away from the healer, and then cry for help once they inevitably get gangraped. Or push a boss that was being trapped by other players because they were afraid of getting fucked by it or because MUH DPS, allowing the boss to get free and fuck over everyone else.

I tried to like Wakfu, but the battles really feel like Dofus lite.
The combat maps are just too tiny, there's no room for tactics when every monster can walk through the entire place in 2 turns.

it gets better and more rewarding as you level up, but before level 100 it feels like you're walking on molasses 24/7, also the debuffs Enu can use get more and more useful the higher you go

I'd say it's worth it being a main Enu for my first character

Phaeris is the Asia+Aussie server and not many people play from there.
Nox is literally just US and Canada, though from what I hear that server is full of PvPers and has a fucked up economy which is not very welcoming for new players.
