Yes, You can switch characters but only in the flashbacks (which are slightyly linear by the way) which means they dont take place in the same world as the main game but are its own thing.
And I hear the world is a tad bigger then GTAV, but a lot more environmental detail then GTA.

Im not sure how many towns there are. Ive seen at least 2 big ones. I know there are little places scattered through out though. Theres a shit load of stuff to do. Most of the stuff from the first game is back. There is a big emphisis with the economy, which will also be implemented into online. There will be a ton of stuff to but online and offline wit realistic pricing and shit. You can also do a lot of small jobs for people to get money. There are heists this time. You can rob banks, trains, saloons. You can kidnap people and hold them for ransom. Theres a lot of little details like that that are in this game people wanted in the first one.

And no Indian stuff.
